Post-lesson reflection note

The lesson is based on teaching vocabulary and grammar structures. The pupils have learned the Past Simple Tense.

I am teaching the fourth grade pupils, children aged 10 years old. The class is divided into 2 groups. Each group consists of 12 pupils. Almost all of them are hardworking and have a good command English. Most of the students are of linguistic learner type, some students represent logical and visual learning types. A group of the pupils is of interpersonal learning type.

Leading learning styles are visual, auditory and kinesthetic. In fact, it depends on the aim of the lesson. In this lesson I used all these types. While doing the first exercise the pupils are learning new words through hearing the spoken language, then they see them on the page, after that they get coloured cards with the forms of the verbs and match them.

At the lesson I use Millie -4, Activity Book/ Millie-4, Pictures cards /computer programme for Millie-4.

At the lesson I worked with the Past Simple Tense and with the words on the subject “Ice- hockey”.

During the presentation stage it was a Miming game. The children revised vocabulary for different sports activities. I introduced the words team and player, divided the pupils into 2 teams , gave to each team cards with some activities. On the board I wrote - Team A/ Team B and called each pupil a player. Pupils took a card and showed the action, the opposite team guessed. Describing a picture with the help of questions was the second stage. Then pupils learned how to pronounce new words through listening to the story. For the first time they listened and followed the chant, the second time they joined the chant.

At the practice stage children read the story, translated and explained the past forms. This way children realized how to form past forms. The next task was listening to a story with new vocabulary. While listening the pupils had to answer the question. Then they read the sentences from the story, put them into correct order, found the past forms.

The children’s reaction was positive. They took active part at the lesson. They really learned the words because the words were introduces by many different techniques. They really enjoyed the lesson, because this topic is very interesting for them and the pupils can use the structures they’ve learnt in the situations describing their sports games.

I was satisfied with the lesson. Unfortunately, it’s lack of time to do everything I’ ve planned. The next time I would plan more games to train the vocabulary.
