Introduction

Topicality

Every year we conduct a survey among the students of our school about activities, which they are interested in and which could be organized by us during the school year.

Many of students would like to take part in a flash mob. This doesn`t happen by chance, because this direction has become rather popular around the world recently. In our time, there are almost no events without this activity.

The aim, the work’s tasks and the expected result

The aim of our work is to answer the question: Will flash mob be useful nowadays and to what extend?

Our main tasks to answer the question are:

  1. To understand what "flash mob“ means and learn its history;

  2. To find out the reason for the emergence of a flash mob in our country;

  3. To find information about Novosibirsk flash mobs;

  4. To create a table based on the knowledge which we have gotten;

  5. To examine how regular flash mobs influenced on student’s socialization;

  6. To determine the prospect of further work to popularize this direction in the future and to support the interest of students.

To achieve our work`s aim, we used such methods as: search analysis of materials, explanation, research, survey and comparison.

We assume, that flashmob is useful from the social point of view of the modern world.

Main part

How it has begun

Flash mob (from English words - flash — moment, mob — crowd) — is a planned action when a huge group of people appear in the same place and do actions that were planned, after the event they diverge.

The basic flashmob principles that can't be broken are:

  1. Flash mob is an action without a leader: no one can tell the participants what to do;

  2. Flash mob action should be spontaneous from the beginning to the end;

  3. Flash mob can't be for advertising or financial purposes;

  4. Flashmob is an anonymous meeting, ideally, the participants of the action do not even know each other;

  5. Flash mob can't be covered in the media/social networks.

The emergence of the flash mob is associated with the release in October 2002 of the book by sociologist Howard Rheingold "Smart mobs: the next social revolution", in which the author predicted that people will use new communicative technologies like the Internet, cellular phones, to organize themselves. The concept of "smart mob" has become a fundamental in the further development of flash mobs and other similar actions, all of which, in fact, are varieties of smart mob.

The first flash mob was supposed to take place on the 3rd of June, 2003 in New York, USA, but it was prevented by pre-warned police. The second flashmob took place on the 17th of June, 2003 without such problems. Participants came to the previously planned place where they received instructions with the place and time where it will take place. About 200 people (other sources say 150) gathered around an expensive carpet in the furniture section of Macy's and started to tell sellers that they live on the outskirts of city and they had come to buy the "Carpet of love".

However, we shouldn't forget the fact that the action was planned in advance, and the place and time of the meeting was agreed between the participants of the event.

Russian flash mobs

The first Russian actions were held with the help of "LiveJournal" in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

It is a global social network that united russian-speaking bloggers around the world. Also, it is blogging platform for keeping more than a million online diaries of journalists, writers, photographers, politicians, policemen, housekeepers, businessmen and others.

The first Russian flash mob was a simultaneous action on the 16th of August, 2003 in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In Moscow on the platform of the Leningrad station promotion participants met the train from St. Petersburg a sign "NzR178qWE. The day before, on the 15th of August, they tried to arrange a flash mob in Moscow Gum: participants who came at the agreed time applauded the fountain. However, the action hasn’t turned out the planned scale, and not all participants followed the script.

The first Russian actions, like their Western counterparts were rather entertaining: on the 20th of September, 2003, a crowd in Perm prayed at the monument to Lenin and sang: "Lenin is eternally alive", and on the 1st of April, 2007, crowd let soap bubbles on the Moscow Arbat. In 2009, in honor of the anniversary of the movement on the 12th of July, flash mobbers opened in sunny weather multicolored umbrellas on the Patriarch's Bridge, thus depicting the "carpet of love". The meaning of the classic flash mob is in events without politics, economics or religious problems. Similar actions are continuing nowadays too.

However, in Russian conditions, the principle of suspension of flash mobs from the public was unsuccessful. Shares with social overtones have become much more popular. On the 28th of June, 2006 in Tomsk mobbers approached the building of the Duma and threw a trifle at it, symbolically giving the deputies the last crumbs in protest against the increase in tolls in minibuses. On the 18th of April, 2009, a group of students of the RGSU in the center of Moscow opened a book on the street and began to read, thus expressing a protest of students against the eviction of the RGSU from the buildings on Nikolskaya Street.

The adult population has also adopted the idea of struggle. Expressing their attitude to the increase in gasoline prices, on the 17th of July, 2018, St. Petersburg drivers, united under the leadership of the motorists' union "Freedom of Choice", stopped at gas stations in the city and refueled for one liter.

The business card of mobers in the CIS, including in Russia, became political mobs. In Russia, on the 7th of June, 2006, at the Manezhnaya Square in Moscow, during the International Newspaper Congress, 15 people covering their mouths with bandages and American dollars, thus opposed the restriction of freedom of speech in the country.

During the presidential election in March last year, there was a mass vote at some polling stations with emoticons instead of ticks and entering the same non-existent candidate in the bulletin.

When Putin's prime minister to Archangelsk, the citizens started to make a city look like a village. Mobbers enjoyed this idea too and decided to take part in it: about 200 people had to line up along the route of the premier, waved white rafts and bow in the belt of a passing motorcade. But, the training became known to law enforcement agencies, the action was canceled. But these are rather private cases.

Politmobs attract participants by their relative impunity. To avoid conflicts with the police, all protesters must have a passport, and if they are arrested, deny involvement and point to the randomness of the incident. Often organizers discuss the alibi for the participants. For example, it was in Yekaterinburg on the 28th of February, 2018. In front of the city administration building there was a group of people with white banners without inscriptions. Mobbers walked in circles, swinging their fists and opening their mouths in silent chants. When they were detained, the question: "What did you do?" was the ready answer, "Dried leaves". However, this action took place without participation of police — it simply didn't manage to call.

The radical opposition also declares its readiness to follow the path of the political mobs. "Authorities nudges us to this, — explains the coordinator of the movement "Defense" Oleg Kozlovsky about the readiness to go the way of politmobs. — We several months can't agree with the capital authorities about simple distribution of leaflets. But flash mobs don't need approval. The meaning " Illegal flashmob" is absurd itself."

With the development of flashmob began to appear scenarios that do not comply with its rules, but also called «Flashmob». In general, the purpose of any action is to "shake out" passers – by from the usual gray everyday life, make people take a fresh look at the world around them and of course, enjoy the unusual situation.

From classical to experimental

(types and features of flash mob)

So, let's analyze what types of flash mobs are organized by young people these days.

After analyzing various sources of information, we came to conclusion that the classic flash mobs, today are very rare. Over time, the flashmob changes, expands and in its new forms becomes more meaningful and desire to make others think about it. We have identified the most common today "non-classical" flash mobs and tried to systematize them according to the purpose of the table "the Main features of non-classical types of flash Mob". (Appendix 1)

This is not the whole list of flash mob species, but they their main goals are:

  1. Flash mob is a fun event without much meaning;

  2. Participants are trying to break the generally accepted stereotypes;

  3. Participants of the flash mob are serious people who want to make a different impression on others in everyday life;

  4. Flash mob has a huge emotional upsurge, a kind of group psychotherapy;

  5. Taking part in such action, you will make new friends.

Flash mob in Novosibirsk

We were wondering what kinds of flash mobs are held in Novosibirsk and what is their scale. To do this, we analyzed various information sources (Internet resources, news notes) over the past 10 years and systematized the data in the table "Flashmob in Novosibirsk". (Appendix 2).

The analysis of this information showed that in Novosibirsk flashmob is a frequent phenomenon. The most large-scale flash mobs have charitable and entertainment purposes, as well as dedicated to memorable dates (city Day and The 9th of May).

Flashmob in our school

Our school was opened 8 years ago. We all came here from different schools, neighborhoods and even other cities. Therefore, the school management and teachers faced the question of how to unite such a large team. Then our child activists decided to open a school flash mob. We stood on the Central platform, blew white balloons into the sky and shouted in chorus: "we are the stars." (Originally the name of our school was "Constellation").

Such a simple step gave us the opportunity to feel that we have become closer to each other. All around us, too, froze for a moment, watching our balloons and us, entering the door of his native school.

Since then, our school has hosted many flash mobs. Almost every holiday thanks to the flash mob we plunge into the world of fantasy and childhood: joke, dance, sing, draw and surprise everyone around.

To find out the benefits of flash mobs for school students, we conducted a survey of participants of flash mobs. We asked them to answer the question: "What does participation in a flashmob give you?"

The most common answers of students are:

  1. it brought us together;

  2. it helped us to become more responsible;

  3. it taught us how to work in a team;

  4. it helped to learn how to dance better;

  5. it gave a sense of freedom;

  6. it made us more confident;

  7. it gave us positive emotions;

  8. it helped us make new friends.

As you can see from our investigation, flash mob is a very useful and interesting cultural event. It is widespread in all spheres of life, especially among young people. In our school, flash mob is a regular traditional event that brings a lot of pleasant emotions.

Perspectives of our work

In this year the students from our school:

  1. Created an electronic database for flashmob scenarios for future students.

  2. Appointed responsible people for constant information about the upcoming flash mobs on the page of the school in VK and their results.

Conclusion

This work has shown that flash mob is a popular phenomenon in our country, which develops a sense of responsibility, confidence, ability to work in a team, contributes to the development of creative abilities. In addition, flashmob can develop patriotism and become a good psychotherapy for everybody.

2. Stuffing

The purpose of stuffing is a public action, the participants of which should forget about their complexes and generally accepted measures of behavior. During each share and action, each participant steps over himself. Participants need to break all the templates and achieve complete emancipation. This is called stuffing, because during these actions each participant does something of his own, and the result is some kind of "stuff".

Is a psychological release from the shackles of everyday life.

3. Bookcrossing

Someone intentionally "forgets" a book they like anywhere, in advance put in it a special mark. The one who picked up the book should be guided by the main principle of bookcrossing: "read - give to another."

Is to contact the first owner of the book, by transferring it to another person and further discussion.

4. Mob-house

The action is designed for a few hours. Mobbers "live" by certain rules that differ from their normal lives. Action is clear only to participants of the action and causes misunderstanding among random witnesses. It can be imitation of family life, imitation of wedding, imitation of student life, etc. Theatrical performance, without participation of casual spectators.

Is to get pleasant emotions from the event, have fun in an unusual environment.

5. Polit-mob or socio-mob

These are actions with social or political overtones to draw attention to some political or social events. A softer alternative to rallies.

Purposes are different: to protest, to support someone, to express a civil position.

6. Fun-mob

8. Extreme mob

  • This flashmob is extreme in nature: sometimes the participants of such a flashmob provoke passers-by. It comes to bullying. So, the participants of one of these actions staged a pillow fight with passers - by, they did not expect this.

Is encourage passers-by to become active participants in the action.

  1. 9. Mob-happening

Theatrical action with the participation of the audience. During the performance, participants can use improvisation, a folkloric element and humor. The environment - the scenery, the actors of the play-passers-by.

Is the humor, the surprise of the viewer

  1. 10. Experimental mob (X-mob'е)

At first glance, it is almost impossible to distinguish this flash mob from ordinary life. Such mobs imply the actions of mobbers, very similar to the everyday actions of ordinary people. But at the same time, they have a strict scenario.

This type of flash mob fits the definition of "smart crowd." Because mobbers do not contact each other in any way, do not stand out. On the contrary, they try to pay as little attention as possible to themselves and to communication with the rest of the participants. If the crowd at other mobs often acts randomly, then here mobbers can not impersonate, you need to act clearly and quite ordinary, which requires a lot of endurance.

There is also the effect of "deja vu" when mobbers try to do the most common things in the most everyday way in the usual place.

The main thing in these actions is that the participants feel, there is no task to surprise the viewer. This flashmob is called still real and generates the effect of changing the mind.
