I. Greeting; work with an English proverb: «Necessity is the mother of invention».

1. Translate the proverb and find the Russian equivalent.

Words:

  • necessity - необходимость

  • invent - изобретать

  • device - устройство, прибор

  • to make easier - облегчить

  • happen accidentally - произойти случайно

2. Answer the questions:

II. Work in groups, fill in the table. You see it on the screen.

Read about the inventions, translate and find out:

  • What are the most ancient inventions in the world? (Add some more information).

  • What are Thomas Edison, Alexander Bell, Alexander Fleming, Steve Jobs famous for? (Add some more information about other great inventors).

  • What is the award for the greatest inventions in the world? (Can you remember some names?)



IV. «Interview» (Role play). Work in group: “inventors” and “reporters”. “Inventors” will answer the questions of “reporters” with the help of the cards.
