The aim: to acquaint participants with the historical legacy of the Russian settlement of Fort Ross
- Participants: 5 teams, each consists of 5-10 members.
- Location: Fort Ross
- Form of the quest: travelling around the stations.

Hello, dear guests!
I am glad to see you at the coastline of the Northern California.
A Russian settlement, Fort Ross was founded here in 1812 and our game is devoted to this event.
You are to divide into 5 teams and make a trip around 5 stations where you can prove that you know the history of Fort Ross.
First, you should think about the name and slogan of your team. Then introduce yourselves and travelling around the stations will begin.

Station N1: Sightseeings
Alexander Andreevich Baranov
Hello, dear participants!
I am Alexander Andreevich
Baranov. And I am the first governor of Russian settlements in North America. Мy questions are:
- Due to the Great Fire that took place in 1970 in Fort, one of the notable houses was destroyed completely. However, it was reconstructed 3 years later. What sightseeing was it? (The Trinity chapel, where religious ceremonies take place up to our days).
- Who was the owner of the house where all chiefs of the Fort lived later? (Ivan Kuskov)
- The 200-th anniversary of Fort Ross in 2012 caused the reconstruction of this building. It had been built in Russia, then it was dismantled and taken here to be assembled again. (The pillar-mill, established in 1814)
- All chiefs of Fort Ross lived in the house of Ivan Kuskov, the first chief of Fort Ross. However, one of them built a new house for him. It has become the only building of the 19-th century. Whose house is it? (The house of Alexander Rotchev).
- If one looks at Fort Ross from the sky, he will see it has the square shape. What is situated in its centre? (A well)
Station N 2: History

“ I had lived here before long before white people came to Fort Ross. My ancestors said: If you don’t know your Past, you will never have the Future”.
My questions are:
- Mexico made several attempts in 1820-1830s to banish the Russians from the Fort. Later the Mexicans were ready to admit the Fort as a Russian settlement under this circumstance. What was this circumstance? (Under the circumstance of admitting Mexico an independent state by the Russian government, but Tsar Nikolay the First disagreed to do it.)
- Everybody knows that soil in Fort Ross had always been favourable for agriculture and it was successfully developed later, but the main purpose of building this settlement was not cultivating lands. What was this aim? (To provide Alaska with food supplies)
- The Indian tribe Kashaya-pomo allowed the Russians to live on this land. What was the price of this permission? ( 3 blankets, 3 pairs of pants, 2 axes, 3 mattocks, several threads of beads and the medal to the Indian leader “United Russia”).
- Fort Ross was sold to the businessman, John Sutter for 30 thousand dollars in 1841. However, the payment was not made completely despite the fact it was done in non-cash. How did John Sutter pay for Fort Ross? (He sent wheat to Alaska)
- Only a few people know that it was the count Nikolay Rezanov, who had an idea of exploring Californian lands. His ship was the first among the Russian ships to achieve the shores of America in 1806. Here he had romantic relations described in the famous rock-opera. What is the name of this opera? (“Yunona and Avos”, the ship of Rezanov was called “Yunona”)
