Good afternoon, dear boys and girls and our dear guests! Today we are going to speak about one very nice English holiday, called Christmas. And what is the Russian for Christmas?

That’s it! Do we celebrate Christmas in Russia?

To make our meeting more interesting, we will play! And today we have 3 teams: ________________________________________________________.

And before we start let’s listen to a Christmas poem.

Poem Christmas

Christmas is more than a day in December

It's all of those things that we love to remember

Its carolers singing familiar refrains

Bright colored stockings and shiny toy trains

Streamers of tinsel and glass satin balls

Laughter that rings through the house and its halls

Christmas is more than a day in December

Its the magic and the love

That we'll always remember

Christmas is celebrated on December 25. It is probably the most popular holiday in Great Britain. It is a family holiday. Traditionally all relatives and friends give each other presents.

In general, people get prepared for this holiday very carefully. They decorate their houses with Christmas trees and hang stockings on the fireplace.

Besides the Christmas tree, holly and mistletoe are used to decorate the house.

Game 1 Christmas Sending

Many children believe that Santa Claus arrives on Christmas Eve in a sleigh pulled by reindeer and brings presents. He puts them into the stockings. It can be sweets, oranges, nuts. And if a child didn’t behave properly Santa Claus can put there a piece of coal as punishment.

Poem Santa

Santa comes on Christmas Eve

Seeking those who yet believe

Through a frosty winter night

In a sleigh with reindeer flight

Bringing joy to large and small

Merry Christmas one and all.

Game 2 Puzzles

Carol singing is an essential part of Christmas. Usually children come around in the evening to the front doors and start singing carols and people who live in these houses give children candies, nuts, pies to thank them for carol singing.

After the lunch they go to the sitting room to listen to the Christmas speech of the Queen, shown on TV.

Game 4 Christmas Letters

So Christmas is a merry family holiday for all the people of Great Britain.

And now we are going to learn which team is the winner today!

I want to thank our teams and our guests for such a nice and enjoyable meeting.

And to finish our meeting properly, the pupils will sing a Christmas carol!

Carol («We wish you a merry Christmas») (одеть колпачки и в конце песни хором сказать Merry Christmas!)

You can see a Christmas stocking here on the blackboard, and of course it’s full of sweets for you!
