Facts about his life

So, let’s speak about some facts. Children read this information

  • Ybirai (Ibragim) Altynsarin was born in 1841 in Araqaraghai, Torghay region, present Kostanay region.

  • The boy was raised by his grandfather, biy Balgozha - one of the largest steppe feudal lords, an intelligent and cautious person who was respected by the authorities.

  • Y. Altynsarin collected, systematized and published Kazakh oral creativity. He included in his book excerpts from folk legends, fairy tales, for example: "Satemir-khan", "Izbasty", "Bayuly", "Zhanibek batyr", "Karabatyr";

  • He was married to Aiganym - the daughter of a noble Kazakh. Altynsarin had two sons and two daughters.

  • Y. Altynsarin died on July 17, 1889 at the age of 48 and was buried according to the Kazakh custom with a huge crowd of people not far from his home on the banks of the Tobol near his father's grave;

  • Altynsarin was awarded the rank of State Councilor.

Children, this is his first book for pupils.

It included samples of ancient Kazakh poetry, folklore, as well as original poems and stories by Y. Altynsarin himself. Ybrai Altynsarin's “Kyrgyz chrestomathy” is composed of his translations, his own poems, articles, stories written in excellent Kazakh language.

The circulation of the book (two thousand copies!), Very large for those times, testified that it was intended not only for several hundred Kazakh schoolchildren, but also for the mass of adult readers and listeners.

In Altynsarin's textbooks in a simple form, scientific, artistic, journalistic material. The hard work on the book, fairly recognized as the first creation of the written artistic culture of the Kazakhs, lasted about three years.

The chrestomathy consisted of four parts: “

1. Small stories from the lives of children;

2. Stories from the life of big people;

3. Kyrgyz songs;

4. Kyrgyz proverbs and sayings."
