«Welcome to Washington.DC.»
Welcome to Washington D.C.
Washington is the capital of the country, it’s not in any state in the United States.
It is District of Columbia.
The city stands on the Potomac river and is bordered by the state of Maryland to the North and Virginia to the South.
The place for the capital was chosen by George Washington , the first US president, and the city was called after him.
Washington is the home of all the government institutions for the whole country :
- Congress
- The Supreme Court
- The White House
Capitol Hill (It’s the tallest building and laws are passed there)
Supreme Court ( this is where the laws are interpreted by the highest judges in the USA )
White house (All the presidents of the US have lived there)
But George
Washington never
lived in the White
House
Today The White House has 6 floors, 132 rooms, 32 bathrooms, 147 windows and 412 doors.
The tallest
monument in the
US Capital is the
Washington
monument
This four-sided stone structure looks
like an Egyptian obelisk. It honours
the “Father of the Country” , General,
and the first President of the USA
George Washington.
Jefferson Memorial
Do you know who Thomas Jefferson was?
Thomas Jefferson
was the third
President of the
US.
He wrote the
Declaration of
Independence
Lincoln memorial
What do you know about Abraham Lincoln?
Abraham Lincoln was
the sixteenth
President of the US
and he wrote the
Emancipation
Proclamation
There are a lot green
here, so many parks
and lawns.
Washington is a very
clean city, because
government is the
city’s only
industry, and the
level
of pollution is quite
low.
In the evenings the whole city turns into a big fitness club. Everywhere you can see people playing football or volleyball, jogging or riding their bikes.
With over a dozen Smithsonian Museums in Washington DC, one of the most interesting is the Smithsonian Institution Building (Castle)
