Several steps to write a good composition
Step 1: Clearly understand what you are being asked

Consider this task: “Some people believe that virtual reality is better than real life ”
To help you decide what you are being asked, a useful approach is to underline three or four key words from the question.
Other examples: “Some people think that extreme sports help to build character .”
“ There is an opinion that the paper books will soon disappear .”
Step 2: strictly follow the plan

Always follow this plan:
- make an introduction (state the problem)
- express your personal opinion and give 2–3 reasons for your opinion
- express an opposing opinion and give 1–2 reasons for this opposing opinion
- explain why you don’t agree with the opposing opinion
- make a conclusion restating your position
It is vital to keep paragraphs in proportion as well as in proper order.
Step 3: find arguments

Begin by writing down in brief 3 of your arguments and 2 opposite ones.
Let us take this task: “Most people believe fast food restaurants should be banned .”
- My arguments: makes people overweight, makes people lazy, unhealthy
- Opposite arguments: spares time, tasty
Step 4: mind formal style

- Do not use contractions: don’t, I’m, we’d do not, I am, we would
- Do not use informal words: kids, cops children, policemen
- Do not use short forms of words: teens, fab teenagers, fabulous
- Do not use emotional punctuation marks: ! … . , : -
- Do not write sentences without verbs: Good. This is good.
Step 5: start writing using skeletons

In my opinion, … . Firstly, … (for example). Secondly, … (as a result) … . Finally, … (because) …
On the other hand there are people who believe that … They claim that … According to them …
I partly disagree with this opinion. Of course, … but … Moreover, …
In conclusion, I want to say that the advantages of … outweigh the disadvantages. To my mind, … As for me …
Step 6: count the words and check grammar & spelling
