Emo

The history

• The youth subculture of Emo emerged in Europe and North America as an offshoot of the punk style, in 1984, but its final formation took place only in 2000-2010. Young people and girls with expressive looks, unusual hairstyles, bright eyeliner looked unusual, attracted attention. In contrast to the anarchy of punk, the desire for emotionality was chosen here. Openness to the world was expressed in the unwillingness to hide the bad mood caused by the difficulties of growing up.

Main characteristics

• Positive attitude to life. Emotionality is not only tears, but also the ability to enjoy every day.
• The desire to observe a certain moral and ethical etiquette. This includes honesty, loyalty in relationships, and a willingness not to suppress feelings, but to talk openly about them.
• Healthy lifestyle. Despite the negative opinion of society, the real Emo are mostly vegans or vegetarians, who also exclude the use of any stimulants from nicotine and alcohol to more dangerous substances. Representatives of the subculture are very careful about the environment and their own health. Rejection of various forms of discrimination.
• EMO do not accept racism, ageism, or other forms of harassment of a person because of his difference from others.
• Spiritual growth and purification. Young people devote a lot of time to self-development, while denying any form of suppression of freedom. They choose which way to direct their path.

Attributes

• The typical Emo image is almost identical for both boys and girls. The description of the style can be summarized as follows: concise, bright, eye-catching. A mandatory element of the image are haircuts with an elongated slanted bangs that cover part of the face. The main colors of the Emo subculture are black and pink, today many adherents of this style also choose acid green, white, purple tones, emphasizing their individuality.

• It is also mandatory to have a manicure, and for representatives of both sexes. In addition, representatives of this subculture pay great attention to a variety of accessories and paraphernalia. Their images often use scarves, bracelets, bags, badges, soft toys. A separate element of the style can also be called the modification of your own body: for this purpose, various types of piercings are used, "tunnels" in the ears, inherited by emo culture from the more aggressive and hard punk. Hence the passion for spiked paraphernalia-from chokers to wristbands, bags, shoes.

• For clothing in the style of Emo, a narrowed, adjacent silhouette is characteristic, and in both female and male images. Often you can find a combination of black background and pink prints.Skinny jeans are always tight, sometimes torn, most often black or inky blue. High waist, accent belt on the waist is welcome. Checkered and striped trousers. They also have a narrowed silhouette, usually sewn from a fairly dense material.Sweatshirts with contrasting sleeves. The solid base is complemented by a strip or cage – they are present in the decoration of the sleeves.Checkered shirts. Black-and-white or red-and-black color scheme is welcome.Tutu skirts. This element is preferred by girls. In addition, contrasting neon pink or black leggings are worn.

• A typical Emo hairstyle is a ragged haircut with an accent crown and a long oblique bangs falling over the eyes. Usually the parietal part is cut shorter, the lower strands are made elongated or reach the chin. When styling hair, preference is given to protruding strands in the form of "needles". The main color of the strands is black, but with a mandatory sprinkling of pink, turquoise or ashy "feathers". Sometimes colored elements are simply attached to a hairpin.Girls are welcome to have children's hairstyles in the spirit of anime heroines: tails on the sides, headbands with a lush decor. Colored bows, hairpins and other unusual hair ornaments are actively used.

• In their musical preferences, teenagers belonging to the Emo subculture are quite selective. The main stream is called amocor. It has its own subspecies.Screamo. Music that is characterized by an abundance of screams when performing vocal parts. The melodies sound quite harsh.French-scrimo. A soft version of the previous style, it is more melodic.Hardcore San Diego. The canonical style, close to hard rock, originated in the United States in 1992.Modern teenagers continue to listen to music created in a style that is close and understandable to them. Among the most notable bands of the past and present are My Chemical Romance, Tokyo Hotel — they raised Emo to the rank of pop culture, quickly gaining a multimillion-dollar army of fans.Also popular in Russia artists include Song of Eleven, MAIO.

The position of life

• Emo-quite peaceful teenagers, seeking to avoid open conflicts and clashes. The rejection of a bright image by others makes them close themselves within their subculture. But these teens often find themselves in volunteer work, animal care, or creativity.
