Essential question (Driving question):

How English skills can change your life?

In my opinion, this question is an Essential question because it meets all the criteria of this term:

level of complexity – To answer this question, students will need to analyze many aspects of life that can be affected by knowledge of the English language, such as work, place of residence, social circle, availability of more information, etc., and they also should formulate a comprehensive answer.

level of coherence - This question contributes to the interests of the student, helps to realize the importance of learning English, thereby contributing to the achievement of learning objectives.

level of authenticity – This question contains content that links the learning of English with a student’s real life.

Checklist for framing an effective question

• Is it provocative? – Yes, this question makes the student wonder how his life will change if he learns English.

• Is it open ended?- Yes, this question requires a detailed answer.

• Does it go to the heart of a discipline or topic? – Yes, it is directly related to the English lesson.

• Is it challenging? – Yes, it is quite difficult as it requires an analysis of various areas of life

• Does it arise from real world dilemmas that students find interesting? Yes, this question is connected with the real world, with the students' life and directly affects their interests.

• Is it consistent with learning outcomes and other curricular standards and frameworks as defined in the Huraian Sukatan Pelajaran (HSP), etc? – yes, it is consistent with learning outcomes.

Content, Skills, Personal Strengths – This question has good content.  and in order to answer this question, students should use all this skills and personal qualities:

    • personal and social responsibility

    • planning, critical thinking, reasoning, and creativity

    • strong communication skills, both for interpersonal and presentation needs

    • cross-cultural understanding

    • visualising and decision-making

    • knowing how and when to use technology and choosing the most appropriate tool for the task
