Drama Theatre named after AS Pushkin, founded in 1930, is the oldest theater in Magnitogorsk. The history of the theater is closely connected with the development of the metallurgical plant. The first performances were staged on the works of local playwrights and stages were a dorm room, workshop, and construction site. Soon Theatre of young workers changed status, was transformed into a drama theater and received the name of the Great Russian poet. Difficult times came with the advent of World War II when the part of the staff went to the front. Despite the difficulties, the theater did not stop work – performed in hospitals and military units.

Major changes and updates came in the 80s; the theater experienced a serious crisis. The basis of the new troupe made up actors from the theater studio "Peninsula" in Dushanbe, as well as the actors of the old theater. From that moment a new life began, partnered with many Russian theaters, as well as international cooperation. Nowadays the theater repertoire includes not only works of Russian classics but also world masterpieces, works of the great Shakespeare, such plays as “Romeo and Juliet”, “Twelfth Night”, and the play —“Shakespeare in Love”.
