Is it provocative? Yes, it is. Students learn English in school, use it in their communication, but often they don’t even think about role language plays in their life.

Is it open-ended? Yes, it is. The question requires a detailed answer.

Does it go to the heart of a discipline or topic? Yes, it does. The project that based on this Essential Question is made in English; it includes reading, writing, listening and speaking activities in this language.

Is it challenging? Yes. It is. The process of answering this Essential Question assumes the research in number of articles, web sites, newspapers and using student’s own experience.

Does it arise from real world dilemmas that students find interesting? Yes, it does. President Nursultan Nazarbayev has called Kazakhstan citizens to learn three languages - Kazakh, Russian and English: "Knowledge of three languages should become a standard practice for us. We are teaching (these languages to) our children starting from their first year at school."
