Feast of Saint Lorenzo
Every August 10th, San Lorenzo is celebrated as the patron saint of the area around Piazza San Lorenzo with many festivities.
For the famous San Lorenzo celebration, a vast celebration is organised on the Piazza San Lorenzo, with live music, free lasagne and watermelon for visitors. The event starts at 7 p.m. (after a celebratory mass inside the San Lorenzo basilica at 6 p.m.). When the market stalls along the esplanade are finally put away, the party can begin. Note that the meal is served later in the evening at around 9 p.m. The Fiesta de San Lorenzo is an ideal occasion for visitors to see the heart of Florence… and the hearts of the Florentines.
