Procedure

I. Greetings. Introduction to the topic.

Teacher: Good morning! I’m glad to see you! How are you?

To cheer you up I’d like you to sing a song. Open your book at page

Phonetic warm up:

I Just Call to say I love you

by Stevie Wonder

No New Year's Day To celebrate No chocolate covered candy hearts to give away No first of spring No song to sing In fact here's just another ordinary day

No April rain No flowers bloom No wedding Saturday within the month of June But what it is, Is something true Made up of these three words that I must say to you

I just called to say I love you I just called to say how much I care I just called to say I love you And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

No summer's high No warm July No harvest moon to light one tender August night No autumn breeze No falling leaves Not even time for birds to fly to southern skies

No Libra sun No Halloween No giving thanks to all the Christmas joy you bring But what it is, Though old so new To fill your heart like no three words could ever do

I just called to say I love you I just called to say how much I care, I just called to say I love you And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

Teacher: Thank you! What do you think, why are these three words “though old so new” more important than anything else?

And now, listen to the poem, please!

That time of year thou mayst in me behold

When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang

Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,

Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.

In me thou seest the twilight of such day

As after sunset fadeth in the west,

Which by and by black night doth take away,

Death's second self, that seals up all in rest.

In me thou seest the glowing of such fire

That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,

As the death-bed whereon it must expire,

Consumed with that which it was nourished by.

This thou perceiv'st, which makes thy love more strong,

To love that well which thou must leave ere long.

Do you know the author of this poem?

He is William Shakespear. And it is his the 73th sonnet.

Teacher: We often hear such names as Pushkin and Shakespear, Leonardo da Vinci and Levitan, Stevie Wonder and Dmitriy Hvorostovskiy and many others. So, what is your opinion about the topic of our lesson?

Pupil’s answer:

Teacher:Yes, you are right, we continue to speak about culture.

But what is Culture? We tried to answer this question during the period of studying the topic “Steps to understanding culture” So, for today we should understand the role of culture in our life”. As for your home work you should make a presentation. Let’s watch it.

To give the definition of culture we will also watch a video “What is Culture?”

After watching it the pupil write on the board associogram.

  • Values and Beliefs
  • Customs and Traditions

  • Theatre and Cinema
  • Patterns of Behaviour

Step 4. Art

Teacher: We can speak about either material, or spiritual culture. Art is both.

Art has been a part of our life for as long as humanity has existed. For thousands of years people have been creating, looking at, criticizing, and enjoying art. That’s why there are so many proverbs and sayings about art, and one of them is on the board.

“Art is long, life is short”,

What kind of art is your favourite? What is your favourite singer? What do you know about such well-known singer as Stevie Wonder?

Let’s do such a task.

Fill in the blanks with the words below. Two words are odd.

a)  already

b)  enjoyed

c)  exciting

d)  famous

e)  held

f)  interested

g)  spent

h)  still
