Project “National Festivals”

EQ: What peculiarities does the festival of your nationality have?

Grade: 13-16 years old

Level: Intermediate

Time: three hours (1 lesson – research, 2 lesson – making wallpaper, 3 lesson - presentation)

General aims

  • To produce a wall paper of the festivals of every student`s nationality;
  • To encourage confidence and increase understanding of everybody`s culture;
  • To get acquainted students to the national festivals of their classmates.

Language aims

  • To practice reading and writing skills;
  • To expand range of vocabulary;
  • To develop speaking skill by oral presentation the end product;
  • To develop listening skill by watching authentic video.

The teacher gives out cards with the names of nationalities living in Kazakhstan. Students who have the same name of nationality form group of three. The card defines the topic or nationality of their project.

To define the topic of the students project by random choice.

Students design the plan of their project by their own; they make a plan of the project.
