At school or university, we [my classmates and I] were corrected at the front of the class during the task performance or at the moment of speaking. When I was thinking how to shape my utterance or express my thoughts, I got the direct and obtrusive correction, though the communication wasn’t at risk, yet the teachers intervened. That time I didn’t have any clue what tolerance of ambiguity was. Teachers were like mistake hunters who shot you dead at the moment of speaking.

When the teacher corrected my spoken language, I felt crushed and demotivated. –Teachers reacted to all kinds of mistakes without giving the constructive feedback and their intention.

When my classmates corrected my mistakes, I felt judged. – Didn’t have any chance for self-correction.

The most useful error correction technique for me was ‘echoing’ when the teacher corrected me while speaking activities because it made me aware of the FMU.
