Many years ago there lived a man in England whose name was Robin Hood. All the poor people of England loved Robin because he always helped them. But the rich people wanted to kill Robin because he took money from them and gave it to poor people.
Once the sheriff of a big town decided to catch Robin Hood and kill him. He invited all the best archers of England to a shooting contest in his town and promised to give the best archer a silver arrow. The sheriff knew that Robin Hood was a very good shot. He also knew that Robin and his men had green coats on and he hoped to recognize them.
Robin’s friends told him about the contest. They decided to put on red coats instead of green ones and to take part in the contest. A lot of people came to the contest. The sheriff looked for men in green coats but he did not see them. There were a lot of people in black, in red, in brown, in yellow, but there was nobody in green. The sheriff was very angry but he couldn’t do anything.
The contest was over, and the best shot in red won the silver arrow. It was Robin Hood himself, but the sheriff didn’t recognize him. On his way home Robin Hood sent an arrow with a letter into the sheriff’s window. The letter said: “Robin Hood thanks the sheriff for the silver arrow.”
