• Black sheep (of the family)

a person who is a failure

He won't be able to enter the university, he is the black sheep of the family.

catch someone while he is doing something wrong

Jack was caught red-handed while trying to steal a bicycle.

• Get the green light

get permission to do something

We got the green light from our parents to go to the party.

• Once in a blue moon

very rarely

They go out once in a blue moon.

• Roll out the red carpet

greet someone hospitably

The Blacks rolled out the red carpet for their guests.

• A white lie

a small, harmless lie

I told my granny a white lie not to hurt her feeling.

• Out of the blue

a very good chance to achieve something

To write someone’s name on a list if they break any rules, and ban them from having the opportunity to take part again
