Внеклассное мероприятие

по английскому языку

в 5-х классах

“British Festivals and Holidays”













Учитель английского языка

Цель: расширение лингвокультурологического кругозора учащихся.

Задачи:

  • развивать интерес учащихся к стране изучаемого языка и ее праздникам;

  • совершенствовать навыки групповой работы;

  • формирование уважение к культуре и традициям Великобритании.

Оборудование: раздаточный материал (задания на карточках), крутящийся барабан.





Подготовительный этап

Деление на команды путем жеребьевки.

Ребята вытягивают записки с надписями (“Merry Christmas!”, “Happy Easter”, “Trick-or-Treat”) и рассаживаются за столы, на которых лежат символы праздников.

Introduction

Good morning, children.

Today we are going to travel by a special time ship. We’ll go through 4 seasons and 12 months. Each month brings us a special holiday and special tasks. If you do the tasks correctly, you get holidays coins with such lovely smiling faces, because holidays always bring us happiness and delight. By the end of our trip we’ll count your coins and the winners will get prizes.

Please, introduce your teams to our honorable judges.

The team what holiday comes first in the calendar begins. (Easter, Halloween, Christmas).

January brings us New Year’s Day.

It’s a lucky holiday. You get only 1 riddle and 1 point for 1.

People in Britain celebrate this holiday in March or April, but people in Belarus celebrate this holiday in October. (Mother’s Day)


February brings us St. Valentine’s Day.

Your task will be to do the test about this holiday. You’ll get a point for every correct answer.

April brings us April Fool’s Day.

On this day people play jokes on each other. I also have a letter for you from a great liar. He tells you about his favorite holiday, but it’s not true. Your task is to rewrite the letter in negative form.

Dear friends,

I want to tell you about my favorite holiday. It is the Queen’s Official birthday. Last year I celebrated it on February 1. I decorated my house with candles and lights. I made many heart-shaped cards for my relatives. I cooked a Mothering cake for my mum. I also brought a T-shirt for my dad. And in the evening I watched a music parade. People in beautiful costumes danced in the street. This is how we celebrate the Queen’s Birthday every year.

Do you know, that there is a traditional Halloween game in Britain. It’s picking apples from the bucket using no hands. Now, we’ll play this game, too. One by one from each team will come up to the bucket with water and apples and try to pick as many as possible apples in 15 seconds.


November brings us Remembrance Day.

But in our calendar it’s a lucky month. So, you get a riddle.

What is traditional food for Christmas dinner?


December brings us Christmas.

Christmas is the most important holiday for the British and it is impossible without special decoration.

You see the pictures of the things people usually decorate their houses with. Let’s play a word-search game. Find in the table the names of all the most important things for Christmas decoration. You have 2 minutes.
