1. a large beer - большой бокал (порция) пива; a small beer - маленькая порция пива; обратите внимание, что здесь необязательно использовать слово glass.

1. on the side - на гарнир (дословно: на стороне); side dish или garnish означает гарнир; например, в меню часто можно найти раздел под названием Side Dishes - гарниры.
