Цели:

• отработать лексику по теме «Приметы и суеверия»;

• развивать речевое взаимодействие (выражение озабоченности и обеспокоенности);

• развивать умения во всех видах речевой деятельности;

• формировать навыки и умения восприятия речи на слух и говорения;

• развивать логическое мышление;

• развивать эстетическое сознание через освоение культурного наследия народов мира;

• воспитать нравственные ценности и ориентиры;

• воспитать дружелюбное и толерантное отношения к ценностям иных культур.

6. Введение в тему урока.

What’s the Russian for “superstition” (суеверие)?

Can you explain it in English?

(The belief that particular events bring good or bad luck.)

Well, what do we know about the superstitions surrounding us?

• Most of them have roots in long ago times, before the arrival of Christianity in Europe.

• They can’t be explained by reason or science.

Ex.3 p.12

Look at our screen and choose what superstitions bring people good luck or bad luck.

to spill salt is bad

to open an umbrella in the house is bad

a black cat crossing your path will bring – good

the number 13 is bad

to meet or pass someone on the stairs is bad

a horseshoe over the door of a new house brings - good

to take a last piece of bread on the plate is bad

a clover with 4 leaves brings good

to put new shoes on the table is bad

to break a mirror is bad

Friday the 13th brings – bad

There are a lot of superstitions connected with Christmas and New Year’s Day.

If a baby is born on Christmas Day it will bring – good

If you wear new shoes on Christmas it will bring you – bad

If you wash your hair on New Year’s Day, you will wash away – good luck

Well, you are bright!

a) Understanding attitude and opinion.

Read through the statements. Which do you agree with the most? Say why.

b) Listening for comprehension (gist) (multiple matching).

Reread the statements from Ex. 4 a. Try to understand the general idea (gist) of what the speaker is saying.

Read through the language box. In pairs you have to role play the different situations. Use the expressions from the language box.

Examples

(P1: 2 What’s the matter?

P2: I’m taking the boat out tonight and I’m a bit anxious because there’s going to be a full moon.

P1: I’m sure that if you take care then there will be nothing to worry about.

P3: Are you alright?

P4: I’m really worried as I’ve broken a mirror. Perhaps I’ll have seven years’ bad luck!

P3: Don’t worry. Everything will be fine if you think rationally. It’s only a superstition.

P5: Is there anything troubling you?

P6: Yes. I walked under a ladder and I’m worried that now something bad will happen to me.

P5: There’s nothing to worry about. You should pay less attention to old wives’ tales.)

b) Identifying language functions/Predicting the context of a dialogue.

Ex. 6 p.13

Read out the sentences 1 to 4. Which express worry? Express concern? Reassure?

Sentence 1 expresses worry.

Sentence 2 expresses concern.

Sentence 3 reassures.

Sentence 4 expresses worry.

The dialogue is about two friends talking about superstitions.

Read through dialogue and incomplete sentences, read them.

Read and translate.

с) Post-reading. Этап проверки понимания прочитанного.

Scan the dialogue for superstitions and list them. Then elicit which superstitions from the dialogue bring good or bad luck.

9. Отработка интонации.

Ex 8, p13.

a) Identifying stressed syllables.

Intonation is the way your voice rises and falls as you speak and the emphasis you put on words or parts of words. Listen to the recording and complete the task individually. Translate phrases.

b) Practising intonation in exclamations.

React to the comments below with an exclamation from ex.8a. Pay attention to the intonation.

4 That’s a load of rubbish!

5 What a coincidence!

c) Understanding social exchanges/Listening for confirmation.

Ex 9, p13.

Complete the task individually. Listen to the recording. Choose the correct response.
