Модальные глаголы can, should, must (основная информация) «Rainbow English» 5 класс

Модальные глаголы – особая

группа глаголов, которых

называют недостаточными,

так как :

1. Они показывают не действие, а

отношение подлежащего к действию.

Само действие выражает

глагол, идущий после модального

глагола:

He can … (?)

He can jump

(Глагол показывает

физическую способность

субъекта – он может прыгать.)

2. После них употребляется неопределенная форма глагола без частицы to :

- She can speak Chinese.

- Pupils must wear uniform at school.

- You should spend more time in the fresh air.

3. У них нет форм будущего и прошедшего времени, кроме глагола can (could): - She can dance. - She could dance. Вместо них в этих временах употребляются слова и словосочетания, близкие по значению: - They will be able to build a new house. - Ann and Jack had to return home.

4. В настоящем простом времени (Present Simple) в 3 лице ед. числа (he, she, it), у модальных глаголов нет окончания -s : - You shouldn’t speak so much. - Sue can sing.

5. Для образования вопросительных и отрицательных предложений, модальным глаголам не нужен вспомогательный глагол :

- They can go to the cinema on Sunday.

- Can they go to the cinema on Sunday? –Yes, they can . No, they can’t ( cannot ).

- When can they go to the cinema? – On Sunday.

- They can’t ( cannot ) go to the cinema .

CAN – уметь/мочь/быть в состояние сделать что-либо:

- I can play the piano.

- My mother can speak French and English.

MUST – необходимость совершения действия, – обязанность, приказ:

- You mustn’t do that!

- Children must obey the rules.

SHOULD – необходимость совершения действия, часто - совет; надобность:

- She should walk a lot.

- I should go there.
