There are many places of interest in the city:

We start from Trafalgar Square. On the column in the centre there is a statue of Admiral Nelson.

Now we are at Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace -

the London home of the Queen. (600 rooms). The Queen's Gallery houses paintings, drawings and furniture from the royal collections.

You can see the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.

It is the seat of the British Government.

Houses of Parliament

the home of British government. The Houses of Parliament sits in Westminster Palace, (arch.Sir Charles Barry and Augustus Pugin) It was built in 1840. The style is rich Gothic.

Big Ben

is a symbol of London. It's a clock tower 316 feet high (95m). It's situated in Saint Stephens Tower of the Houses of Parliament. It is called after Sir Benjamin Hall who rebuilt it. The great clock was installed in the Tower in 1858.

St. Paul’s Cathedral is the second famous church in London. The architect is Sir Christopher Wren.

Westminster Abbey

was built in the 11th century. Many kings, queens and famous people were buried and crowned there. Parts of the Abbey are set aside for the memorials and tombs of outstanding people. (Newton, Darwin, Dickens, etc.)

There are 14 bridges across the Thames in London. Tower Bridge is the only Thames bridge which can be raised when big ships come up to the bridge.

Piccadilly Circus

is a large round square and a meeting point of six streets. There is a statue of Eros in the middle of the square. The steps of the statue are the favorite place of young people in London.
