Introduction

I like wearing beautiful clothes. There are a lot of clothes in my wardrobe. They are T-shirts, skirts, sweaters, leggings, blouses, dresses, shorts and others. But I like jeans most of all. I wear them everywhere except to school. For example, for a walk, for a birthday party, on a picnic, during the trip. They are very cool, trendy and comfortable. I learnt that jeans are from America. They are popular among the British too. Both boys and girls prefer wearing them anywhere. I wanted to know more about jeans, when and where they were invented, in what occasions the British wear jeans.

The theme of my research work is “Jeans are clothes for everyone”.

The aim of my work is to prove that the British are also like wearing jeans. According to this aim I put the following tasks:

-to study the theoretical material on the topic;
- to find out information about the history of jeans;

- to learn more about attitude to jeans in Great Britain and Russia;

- to know if my classmates like jeans as I do;

- to make a conclusion.

Methods of research:

I read books on the topic of the research, asked my classmates, found information on the Internet.

  1. History of jeans.

1.1 Jeans in the USA

Jeans are trousers made of thick cotton fabric. Jeans began its history in the Italian city of Genoa. Jeans, as we know them today, began its history in the 19th century in the USA. They were made by Levi Strauss, a businessman from Bavaria. He began to sew trousers from tent fabric. They were very sturdy, did not miss the dirt, the seams of which were reinforced with double stitching, with many pockets. In addition, they could be easily washed. Jeans were popular among loggers, cowboys, farmers, gold miners. During the Second World War, jeans became almost a military uniform in the United States - they were sold only to those who participated in hostilities.

In the mid-19th century, Levi replaced the tent fabric with denim, painted blue. It was resistant and did not present difficulties in use. In addition, the blue colour is not so much manifested pollution. By the time jeans had popularity in the everyday life of farmers, construction workers and mining workers in the USA.

Since 1880 Levi's has been producing jeans as we know them today. For stitching he used orange threads, a line "bird" appeared on the back pockets, at the corners of the pockets he used fastening seams. The first jeans cost 1 dollar 46 cents.

1.2 Jeans in Russia.

Jeans first appeared in Russia in 1957, during the world festival of youth and students.

First of all, citizens of Moscow and Leningrad got acquainted with jeans, where foreign tourists and students began to appear. Delegations from these two capitals were more likely to travel abroad. So, Western things at first appeared among the inhabitants of these cities, and a number of ports-Odessa, Kaliningrad, Vladivostok.

In these years jeans began to be mentioned in works of our writers and poets: Vasily Aksenov, Yevgeny Yevtushenko.

  1. Jeans in Modern Life.

It is difficult nowadays to find a man who hasn’t jeans in the wardrobe. Denim clothing is so firmly established in modern life that there are entire industries that produce this fashionable and necessary product. There are many types of clothing made of denim: jackets, skirts, dresses, coats, shorts. Traditionally, jeans are made of rich blue fabric, straight cut and the presence of five pockets are considered essential attributes of them. Boys and girls, men and women like wearing jeans every day. These trousers are very comfortable, trendy and spectacular. They put on them on different occasions: to the park, to the club, to the disco, at home, at work, to the party.

Modern denim fashion has a lot of models and styles. The most popular are:

Bootcut (клеш) - this style fits the silhouette and expands at the bottom.
