Dear boys and girls!

My name is Anna Greens. I live in a small town Seaford, South Britain. My town is situated at the seaside of the English channel or La Manche. The water here is very polluted. Many factories throw their wastes into the channel. Sea animals and birds are often ill, sometimes they even die. Some time ago there was a horrible disaster: a tanker with oil broke in the sea and lots of oil got into the water. I joined Greenpeace organization and helped to save animals. And are there any problems in your town? How do you help the nature?

Write,

Anna.

ТЕКСТ ДЛЯ АУДИРОВАНИЯ

Since ancient times Nature was our friend, it gave us food, water, home. But with the development of civilization, human’s influence began to increase. Large cities with of smoky factories appear all over the world today. The wastes of their activity pollute the air we breathe, the water we drink, the land we grow vegetables on. Every year world industry pollutes the atmosphere with about 1000 million tons of dust and other harmful substances. Many cities suffer from smog.

Many forests are cut down. As a result some rare species of animals, birds and plants disappear forever, a number of rivers and lakes are empty of fish.

The most horrible ecological disaster befell Ukraine and its people after the Chernobyl tragedy in April 1986. About 18 percent of the territory of Belarus were polluted with radioactive substances.

Immediate actions must be taken. The international organisation Greenpeace is doing much to save the environment.

ancient - древний

influence – влияние

smoky – дымящий
