Activity 1 Listen and sing. Objectives: to warm up; to revise the days of the week. Look at Unit 2, Lesson 1 Activity 1 for the instructions.

Activity 2 Play “Ball”. Objectives: to consolidate the days of the week; to have fun. VERSION 1 Ask the pupils to look at the picture in the textbook and explain that they are going to play a game. Ask the pupils to

remember the day of the week you will tell them. Allocate all the days of the week to the pupils (there will be two or three kids with the same day). explain that when you throw a ball and at the same time say e.g. “Sunday”, the pupils with this day must catch a ball and try to throw the ball to any boy and girl. You

can also play the DVD to show how to do the activity correctly. VERSION 2 if your class is not big enough or your pupils can be too noisy playing the Version 1, play another game. Ask the pupils to stand in a circle and allocate all days of the week as in the first version. explain that when you say e.g. “Sunday”, the pupils with this day must change their places. VERSION 3 You can play Version 2 with chairs. The pupils sit on the chairs put in a circle. in order to make it more fun after some time you can sit on one of the chairs. The kid which will be left without a chair will lead the game and must say another day instead of the teacher.

Activity 3a Listen and repeat. Objective: to revise the question from Class 1 “Is it …?” and answer “Yes, it is” with the days of the week STEP 1: show a pen and ask the pupils to answer your question: “is it a pen?”. help them to answer it by saying “Yes, it is.” Continue with some other objects to practice the question

and answer. STEP 2: Ask your pupils to listen to the DVD and say what question and answer they hear. Answer key :a question “is it Sunday?” an answer: “Yes, it is.” Play the DVD. Ask the pupils to listen to the song and repeat after the DVD. DVD script: is it Sunday? is it Sunday? Yes, it is. Yes, it is. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Saturday.

Activity 3b Listen and sing. Objectives: to learn the song with the days of the week; to have fun Play the DVD again. Ask the pupils to listen to the song and repeat with the DVD. You can organize singing like this: First row: is it Sunday? is it Sunday? Second row: Yes, it is. Yes, it is. Third row: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Altogether: Saturday, Saturday.

Activity 4a Write the letters. Objective: to learn two more letters of the alphabet –Kk and Ll Ask the pupils to look at the letter “kk” and say what pictures are next to the letter (kite and kangaroo). Play the DVD

and ask the pupils to listen and repeat the letter and the corresponding picture. Also draw their attention to the way the letters are written. Then ask the pupils to open their Workbooks and start writing the capital letter “k” and then small “k”. Ask them to look at the example and follow the arrows. if necessary, demonstrate on the blackboard. Then repeat the procedure with the letter “Ll”. Note: 1. if some pupils are very slow at writing don’t worry. Ask them to continue writing at home. The main point is to learn

how to write and how to pronounce the letter. 2. After the pupils have practised writing the letters for some

time you can work on the pronunciation of the letters “k” and “L” as follows: STEP 1: Write the words “kite” and “kangaroo” and the sound [k] under or over the letter “k” on the left side of the blackboard. Then say that unlike “A”, “C”, “e”, “G” and “i”, the letter “k” is always pronounced as [k] and it does not give more than one sound. After that have the pupils repeat this sound after you individually, in rows and chorus.

STEP 2: When you finish with step 1, write the words “lemon” and “lion” and the sound [l] under or over the letter “l” on the right side of the blackboard. Then say that like “k”, the letter “L” also gives only one sound and is always pronounced as [l]. After that have the pupils repeat this sound after you individually, in rows and chorus. Suggestion:Go on making a pronunciation poster as you did during the previous lessons. in this lesson you can make complete posters for the sounds [k] and [l] of the letters “k” and “L”.

Optional activity 4b Write, draw and colour. Objective: to revise the structure “I like …” Ask the pupils to read with you the first sentence “like black …” (ask them to guess the word “bags” which is missing). Ask them to colour the bags. Then ask the pupils to complete the second sentence and draw any picture they like. e.g. “balls” and read their sentence. Spelling dictation Ask the pupils to listen to you and write the letters and words. Dictate: b, c, e, f, a, bag, dad You can check the dictation yourself or ask the pupils to check themselves or do it in pairs. Write the letters and words on the blackboard and ask them to compare. say that if they have many

mistakes it means they must revise the letters and words and prepare for the next spelling dictation.

Activity 5 Play “Interview”. Objectives: to revise the question “What’s your favourite …?”; to consolidate the days of the week. STEP 1: Ask the pupils to look at the picture and say what they see in it. Ask the pupils to translate the question “What’s your favourite day?”. Then ask several pupils: “What’s your favourite day?” STEP 2: Ask the pupils to play Chain drill and ask each other the question: “What’s your favourite day?” as in the DVD. STEP 3: Ask the pupils to work in groups of 3. Pupil 1 will be ‘a cameraman’, Pupil 2 –‘a journalist’, and Pupil 3 a famous person. Ask what other questions they can ask each other. elicit the questions: What’s your favourite toy? What’s your favourite colour? What’s your favourite animal? What’s your favourite vegetable/fruit? etc
