Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the USA.

It is celebrated each year on the fourth Thursday in November.

The story started in 1620. A group of people left England.

They went to America.

These people were called PILIGRIMS.

The ship “Mayflower”

A lot of people died in the first winter

Friendly Indians taught them:

-planting corn - hunting

-fishing

In autumn it was the first harvest.

The pilgrims gave a huge feast.

They gave thanks to God.

Food eaten at the first Thanksgiving

have become traditional.

Thanksgiving Football.

Football is the most popular game on this day. After dinner people relax , talk and watch a football game on TV.

Parades

There’s a big parade in New York City.

Charity.

Americans organize charity dinners .

It was Harry Trueman , the American president , who was the first to give two turkeys on the thanksgiving day eve.

Cornucopia.

The cornucopia is a horn of plenty, the symbol of nourishment.  

Greeting cards .

One more tradition is

sending greeting cards.
