ПЛАН-КОНСПЕКТ ПО АНГЛИЙСКОМУ ЯЗЫКУ ПО ТЕМЕ “FOOD”

QUIZ-GAME “FOOD” Purposes:

1. to activate Ss’ knowledge of traditional Russian, British and American food; to form cross-cultural competence;

2. to raise Ss’ awareness of the originality of Russian culture;

3. to enrich Ss’ topical vocabulary and practise it; 4 to motivate Ss for further studying of English.

Ss are divided into 2 groups.

Each group gets 1 point for each right answer.

Experts (the fifth formers) score the game.

Slide presentation can be helpful.

1. “Meals” The teams are to arrange the meals correctly:

Lunch dinner tea breakfast supper and answer the question: What are the differences between Russian and English meals?

1. “Tastes differ”

Ask Ss to complete the sentences:

Russian tea is tea with … British people drink tea with …

American people like to have … tea. Continental breakfast is …

Full English breakfast is … Etc.

1. “Delicious poems”

Ss recite some poems about food – the more the better.

“Robin”, “Who likes what?”, “I like ice-cream”, “ Jonathan Beam”, “ Little Jack

Horner”, etc.

Teams can get an extra point for the Russian versions.

1. “Holidays and food”

Who knows Russian, British and American traditions better?

Answer the questions:

What do English people eat at Christmas?

What is the traditional Russian food during Maslenitsa week? Etc.

1. Time to relax. Hallowe’en games (with apples).

1. Song contest (or one song for the whole class)

Songs “I’m a little teapot”, “Hot cross buns”, etc.

1. “Traditional Russian food”

Not all English people know traditional Russian food. Try to describe the traditional Russian dishes to your English friend: kissel blini shchi borshch, etc.

1. “Menus”

Your English friend wants to taste the traditional Russian food. What tasty things would you give him?

1. “Riddles”

Teams try to solve each other’s riddles.

(The plan how to make a riddle is on the screen:

• The country where the dish is popular, where the fruit grows, etc.

1. Game “Fruit basket”

1. “Proverbs”.

Make the proverbs from the words:

• supper, after, mustard

• keeps, a day, the doctor, an apple, away - today, than, an egg, a hen, tomorrow, better - etc.

Give the Russian equivalents.

What Russian proverbs about food do you know?

Then each team acts out the dialogues, prepared beforehand. The other team is to guess the proverbs illustrated in the dialogues. 12The results of the game, praising the winner.
