внеклассного мероприятия

по английскому языку для 7-8-х классов

тема:

«Интересные факты о Великобритании»

форма проведения:

Интеллектуальная игра «Звездный час»

Цели: воспитание культуры общения, повышение интереса к изучению иностранного языка, развитие интерактивных навыков и умений учащихся.

Задачи:

- систематизировать и проверить знания учащихся по страноведению англо-говорящих стран;

- развивать творческие способности учащихся;

- развивать навыки иноязычной коммуникации;

- развивать умение учащихся работать в сотрудничестве, оказывать взаимопомощь, нести ответственность за результат совместной деятельности.

Оборудование: карта мира, картинки, карточки с заданиями для конкурсов, звезды, ПК, проектор.

Ход мероприятия

Today we are having a contest. Two teams are taking part in it. Each team will get a star for every correct answer. I’d like you to be active and to get as many stars as possible. At the end of the contest we’ll see which team is a winner. Good luck and let’s start.

Task1. “Geography”.

You know some information about the UK. Look at the board. You can see some figures and geographical names. Make up sentences using them.

The UK consists of four countries—England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Wren was an English scientist and mathematician and one of Britain's most distinguished architects, best known for the design of many London churches, including St Paul's Cathedral.

The Union Jack, or Union Flag, is the national flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Task2. “Holidays”.

There a lot of holidays which are celebrated in the UK. You can see here 6 names of holidays. Listen to the small text and say what holiday it is.

5. People celebrate this holiday on the 31-st of October. The children wear masks and colorful costumes. The most popular costumes are ghosts, witches, and skeletons. (Halloween)

6. This holiday is celebrated on a Sunday in April or May. Before this holiday people color eggs. (Easter)

Task 4. “Famous People”.

You know a lot of famous British people. Can you guess who are they?

1. He was one of the most well-known poets and playwrights of the world, born in the 16-th century. (W. Shakespeare)

2. He was an English general and politician, leader of the army against King Charles 1-st in the civil war. (Oliver Cromwell)

1. This monarch was married 6 times, his 2-d wife daughter Elizabeth 1-st became the queen known as the “Virgin Queen”. (Henry 8-th)

2. This Queen ruled for the longest period of time in the English history, for 64 years. (Queen Victoria)

3. He is a national Scottish poet. Remember his poem:

Task 5. “Sightseeing.

There are a lot of interesting places in the UK. Look at the board. Name the sights and tell about them. Let’s do it in turn.

Big Ben is the name of the huge clock-bell on the top of Big Ben. It’s the biggest one in Britain. It was called Big Ben after Sir Benjamin Hall, who looked after the building of the clock.

Trafalgar Square is the most famous of London squares; it’s situated in the centre of London not far from Westminster and Buckingham Palace. In the centre of this square we can see the statue of Lord Nelson, who defeated the French Fleet in 1805.

Hadrian’s Wall is in the North of England. It’s a stone wall built across the North of England by the order of the Roman’s ruler Hadrian to defend the Northern border of Roman Britain from the Scottish tribes.

Holyrood House is a big royal palace which is the residence of the Queen when she is in Edinburgh.

Princes Street is the most beautiful street of the New Town. It has a lot of gardens on one side and it is also Edinburgh’s popular shopping centre. This street is connected with the name of the famous writer, Sir Walter Scott.

St. Paul’s Cathedral is the city’s greatest monument. It was built by Sir Christopher Wren from 1675 to 1710.
