“I live in Astrakhan. Our town is big and nice. There are many cinemas, museums, shops and factories in our city. Besides there are many parks, theatres, schools and libraries here.
Astrakhan was founded in 1557. Astrakhan is situated on the great Russian river Volga. This river is very beautiful and large, and many boats go on it. Across the river there are several modern bridges.
Astrakhan is not only industrial center. Here there are many concert halls, museums, art galleries. Many famous actors and singers come to our city. Many famous people were born in Astrakhan, such as Khlebnikov, Trediakovskij, Zavorotnyuk, Dyuzhev, Vitorgan and others.
The living conditions of people in our city are improving. The transport system is developing. It became easier to get from one part of the city to another.
Astrakhan is more than four hundred and sixty-four years old but it looks very young. The inhabitants of Astrakhan love the city and try to keep it clean. Our city is very nice and I like it very much.”

1. The Astrakhan Kremlin
The Astrakhan Kremlin is one of the main attractions of the Astrakhan region. The building is located in the central part of the city, and it is а remarkable architectural construction of the second half of the 16th century.
This historical and architectural complex consists of 22 buildings –monuments. The Bell-tower is seen from any place in the city, It stands above the front gate which connected the citadel with the White city.
2. Astrakhan State Art Gallery of Dogadin P.
The Astrakhan state Art Gallery named after Dogadin P. The gallery began with a collection of Astrakhan patron Pavel Dogadin. In 1916, he gave his art collection of XIX-XX centuries to the city. The Art Gallery was opened on December 15, 1918. The name of gallery was changed several times, in 1958, the gallery was named after Kustodiev and only in 2008 it was decided to bring back the original name.
3. The Astrakhan State Opera and Ballet Theatre
The new Opera and Ballet Theatre was built due to the initiative of the Russian Federation government. In the theatre not only performances are staged but also significant social significant events are held.
The theater was built in the "pseudorussian"-style, with elements of "modernity." The Symphony Orchestra of the Opera House has concerts around Russia and abroad.
4. Lenin square
The central square of the city is located at the foot of the Kremlin. The Square was reconstructed by architects from St. Petersburg. The general concept of the area today is a complex of fountains - "Neva-Volga", decorated with small sculptures. In the central square major public events including concerts, festivals, parades, etc are held. Residents rest on the lawn zones and organize active family picnics.
