Natural disasters.

• A lot of different weather disasters happen on the Earth every year . All of them can be very dangerous for people . The greatest natural disasters cause a lot of damage , injure and kill people .

Flood.

• A flood is a large amount of water which covers a place that is usually dry land . A very awful flood happened in China in 1998, nearly 4000 people were killed . The flood destroyed houses and left millions of people homeless, a lot of farmland was damaged.

Earthquake .

• An earthquake is a sudden shaking of the ground . A terrible earthquake was in China in 1556 , it killed 830000 people . In 1923 , in Japan , 142000 people died.

Hurricane .

• A hurricane is very violent wind or storm , it often brings heavy rains.

Tornado .

• A tornado is a very violent wind in the form of a funnel of air that spins at great speed .
• Tornadoes are the most violent of all storms , they can reach speeds of up to 320 kilometers an hour .

Volcano .

• A volcano is a mountain with a hole called a crater in the top.
• Sometimes lava and gases are thrown from the crater .

Drought .

• A drought is a long period of dry weather when there is not enough water .
