School education in Russia
Nowadays, education plays really important role in our lives. Almost every country in the world has it's own educational system. Now we are going to tell you about the main features of the school education system in Russia.
Some basic facts about education at the Russian schools:
- Schools in Russia give learners secondary education;
- Schools that provide only a standard course of general education we simply call “secondary schools”, and schools that provide in depth knowledge of individual disciplines may be referred to differently ("school with in-depth study of subjects," "Lyceum", "gymnasium");
- Primary and basic general education at school in accordance with the Constitution of the Russian Federation are obligatory for all;
- Parents can choose by themselves a school where their children go;
- Education in public secondary schools (including schools with in-depth study of subjects) is officially free;
- Students, who successfully finished school, get Certificate of Secondary Education - a document confirming that you gained knowledge in the amount of the state standard.
School education stages:
Currently, a full studying course in the Russian school takes 11 years and it's divided into three stages:
- level I (primary general education) - 4 years;
- level II (basic general education) - 5 years;
- level III (secondary (complete) general education) - 2 years.
1 level: primary general education
According to the modern rules, children enter the first grade at the age of 6-7 years.
Primary school takes 4 years. Its task is to give a minimal basic set of knowledge and skills necessary for life and any work. The class in elementary school has only one teacher, who is responsible for the class and teach almost all subjects.
Level 2: Primary school
The total number of subjects studied in the basic school is about two dozen. Among them are algebra, geometry, physics, inorganic chemistry, biology, Russian, literature, history, geography, foreign language, music, physical education. The study loads six lessons per day in average.
At the end of basic school, students take exams: math, Russian, and two more by choice. After graduating from Basic School you get Certificate of Basic Education so you can go to the college.
3 level: High school
The main purpose of high school is to prepare for entering a university. In Russia there are the last two years of studying.
The training course includes the further study of some of the subjects studied in primary school, as well as a small number of new disciplines. Presently, our classes are specialized so students can choose class according to his or her interests.
Upon completion of training, students pass the Unified State Exam (EGE). Pupils are required to pass the mathematics and the Russian language. Passing the exam in other subjects is voluntary but students usually choose subjects that are needed for admission to the selected university.
School uniform
Every Russian school's student has to wear special uniform.
Girls need to wear white blouse, black (or dark blue) dress or skirt and black shoes. Boys wear white shirt, black (or dark blue) trousers, vest, shoes.
