A Trip to London

Trafalgar Square

• We start in Trafalgar Square. In the center of the square there is a big column. At the top of the column there’s a statue of Admiral Nelson, who had to fight the French at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

The Houses of Parliament

• From Trafalgar Square we go down the street and visit the Houses of Parliament. The British government is there. The guide tell us about the history of Parliament and the Gunpowder Plot.

The Gunpowder Plot

Parliament and blow them up. He put 36 barrels of gunpowder in a cellar. On 5th November the King and people in Parliament are going to die. England must be a Catholic country again. But it was a trip. He was caught and executed.

• But now let’s go to see the most famous clocks in the world.
• You can hear it every hour.
• People are allowed to get inside the Tower so that they can see the work of the clock.
• There is no lift and there are three hundred and forty steps (340).
• It weighs 13.5 tons.

Tower Bridge

• Then we go to the Tower Brige. It is the oldest and famous bridge across the Thames.
• Originally it was made of wood by the Romans, but it was often burnt down.
• Later it was made of stone.
• Finally it was rebuilt and made of concrete.

Buckingham Palace

• The Houses of Parliament are very near Buckingham Palace, so we go there next. It’s the London home of the Queen. We can’t go in, because the palace isn’t open to the public this day.

Madame Tussaud’s

• After Buckingham Palace we go to Madame Tussaud’s. It’s a famous museum of wax figures. They have wax figures of all the famous people in the world. I take a lot of pictures there.

The London Eye

• Next we go to the London Eye. It’s on the Thames. It’s the largest observation wheel in the world and it’s very popular with tourists.

The Tower of London

• After the London Eye we go to the Tower of London, which in the past was- a fortress, a castle, a prison and a zoo. Now it’s the oldest museum in London.

The Greenwich Observatory

• After the Tower of London we go to Greenwich. Three hundred years ago it was a village and now it’s a part of London. The guide tell us about Greenwich Palace. Queen Elizabeth I lived there. Then we go to the Greenwich Observatory. It is the center of time and space, because the prime meridian of the Earth, which divides east from west, passes through there. If you stand over the line, you can have one foot in each hemisphere.

Oxford Street

• Finally, we go to Oxford Street, which is the biggest shopping street in London. I want to buy a lot of presents for my family there.
