Great people of my country

• There are a lot of outstanding people in Russia. Among them scientists, writers, designers, travelers, politicians, sportsmen and many others. I would like to tell you about some of them.

Michael Lomonosov (1711-1765)

• Michael Lomonosov was a great Russian scientist, chemist, physicist, artist, poet and writer. His works are known all over the world. Lomonosov became famous in such fields as Astronomy, Literature, Geology, Geography and many others.

Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837)

• Alexander Pushkin was a great Russian poet, writer and playwright. The most famous his works are “Eugene Onegin”, “Dubrovsky”, Ruslan and Lyudmila”. Also Pushkin wrote a lot of fairy tales for children.

Michael Kutuzov (1745-1813)

• Michael Kutuzov was the greatest commander and Marshal. Thanks to him Russian army won the war with Napoleon in 1812.

Peter the Great (1672-1725)

• Peter the Great was an outstanding statesman. Besides, he created a powerful fleet and founded St. Petersburg.

Alexander Popov (1859-1906)

• Alexander Popov was a physicist, engineer and inventor. All his spare time he devoted to the experiments. As a result, in 1895 A. Popov invented the radio.

Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968)

• Yuri Gagarin was a Russian cosmonaut. As well as a hero of the Soviet Union. He was the first person in space. On the 12 th of April in 1961 the spaceship "Vostok" with Gagarin on board went to space and overflied the Earth.

• People put monuments in honor of these persons. Streets and squares are named after famous people.
