One of the main cities of our region is Volzhsky. Volzhsky is situated not far from a legendary city Volgograd. It stands on the banks of the river Achtuba. The first settlers came here in 50th last century. The city was founded in 1952, but its official date of foundation is July 22,1954 .So this year we are going to celebrate the 60th anniversary of our city. Many people consider Volzhsky to be an important industrial center in the South Federal region. Chemical branches of industry are highly developed in the city. Economic development of our region depends on Volzhsky. The city is also a river port.A great Volga hydro-electric power station is near the city. The majority of citizens work at its industrial enterprises. There are many sights in the city, for example The City Park. You can see sculptures and beautiful fountains there. The City Park is one of the most wonderful places for the citizens to rest. It is full of trees, flowers and different entertainments. It also has a small Zoo. It’s more beautiful in summer. If you want to learn the history of the city, you should visit The City Museum. A lot of people go in for sport in Volzhsky. We have a large stadium, a swimming-pool and many sport clubs. Some famous sportsmen were trained there. There are many places where people can have fun. These are Sputnik, Volgamol, Akvapark , Planeta Leto. They suggest you a lot of interesting entertainments. There are some hotels and a lot of shops in the city. Volzhsky is a cultural center of the region too. People of different nationalities live here, so it has multinational culture. The city is famous for its people : doctor Fisher, artist Podchajnov, agronomist Sapozhnikova and others. There are also monuments, churches, The Art Gallery, theatres, cinemas and Palaces of Culture in Volzhsky. Lenin Square is the place where you can take part in the city parades, demonstrations and concerts. All citizens celebrate The Day of the City here every year in July. There are about 50 educational institutions of secondary and high education in our city. Our city is well-built, it is one of the most beautiful cities in our region.
