The work of the computer consists in the execution of programs

Program is an ordered set of actions written in a language understandable to the computer

Information

Information - any data that a person receives from the outside world with the help of his feelings

Information can be stored, received, transmitted and processed. Actions with information are called information processes

The computer can only process such information that is somehow recorded – data

Data - recorded information

Computer - universal means of data storage, processing and transmission

How are the computers arranged?

The actions that all programs perform when processing data of any kind:

• Read (enter) the original data into the computer
• Remember this data
• Perform actions on this data
• Store intermediate calculation data
• Display the results of calculations for human viewing

In all modern computers there are special devices for performing each of these operations

The computer usually contains:

• Input devices through which a person controls a computer and enters the original data
• A processor that performs calculations and controls the coordinated operation of all devices on the computer
• Memory - a device for storing programs and data
• Output devices that convert the results of a computer into a form understandable to a person

Memory is usually divided into the operational memory that is used during data processing, and the long-term memory that is used for long-term data storage

Processor and memory - the central devices that should be in any computer

Input and output devices are often called external (peripheral) devices. Examples of such devices: keyboard, mouse, monitor, printer.

Each computer has an operational system

Operational system - a set of commands for controlling the operation of the computer

There are many different operational systems

Windows is the most popular operational system
