Topical eco issues around the world

• Air pollution (exhaust gases, the operation of thermal power plants, industrial emissions, all it's ruining our air shell)

• Water pollution ("trash Islands," millions of tons of waste are discharged into ocean waters, killing several types of fish every day)

• Genetically modified (GM)

These same issues are present in the UK, and in particular GM, which we would like to tell you about.

Why people afraid of GM?

• GM are not studied enough to say that they are safe and do not cause any undesirable consequences. The Internet is filled with many videos and sites that "show GM from its bad side". For example some say about horrific tumors in rats fed GM, others about the impossibility of procreation from the same subjects.

Is everything so bad?

But all these "horror stories" are not excuses.

There are opponents of this theory. They talk about these virtues of GMOs, such as:

1)the Ability of the introduced gene to produce substances, insect repellent, thereby protecting the plant from pests.

2)the Ability to develop "immunity" to viruses in plants through genetic modification.

3)the Possibility to develop absolutely new the best plants will be protected from all known viruses and will give huge yields

So…

• Everything points to the fact that the positions of the GMOs in the UK will soon undergo drastic changes. The media carried out a real campaign, demonstrating the benefits of new technologies, and encouraging society to be more open and not to abandon progress. People begin to believe that genetic modification is not bad.

But…

• Despite the positive attitude to GM in the UK is running "GM Freeze", which deals with the termination of the experiments with genetically modified crops, so in 2014 the Department of environment, food and agriculture confirmed the absence of applications for research on GM
