Problems of War and Peace. Terrorist Threat

People and governments of goodwill have always aspired to a lasting peace in the world. People also aspire to justice and they encourage their governments to recognize the rights to countries and individuals.

Nevertheless the world has witnessed several horrifying terrorist attacks. They happened on different continents and in different countries: in Britain, in Spain, in the USA, in Russia. London, Madrid, New York, Moscow, Beslan, Buinaksk have suffered from terrorism. A lot of innocent people were killed. The number of child victims of armed conflicts during the past decades is great: 2 million killed, 5 million disables, more than 1 million orphaned and about 10 million psychologically damaged. Nowadays people don't feel safe in big cities, they try to avoid crowded places.

Many people criticize the USA for using its military power to get what it wants. American troops were drawn to Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction. They were not found there. But the invasion of American troops made extremists feel angry with the Americans for the war.

Governments should take rational and decisive steps to prevent terrorism. Customs and frontier control should be strengthened. All airlines should employ sky marshals to attack terrorists if they attempt hijacking. Children should be taught tolerance and respect for human life. People of goodwill all over the world should unite their efforts to propagate peace by all means. They should remember that every conflict can be solved by peaceful means. The proverb says: "The pen is mightier than the sword".

The UNO is an international organization which codifies the major principles of international relations and keeps international peace and security, it settles local conflicts, restores peace in troubled areas and tries to ease world tension and establish a lasting peace.
