Dear reader! In this book we will introduce to you many aspects of the Urals. We talk about the plants and animals. Also we will tell you about the cities of the Urals, especially about Ekaterinburg and Verhny Tagil. In this book we paid attention to the attractions, so we decided to tell you about 10 the most popular sights such as The Leaning Tower of Nevyansk, Ganina Yama, Nizhny Sinachiha, Verkhoturie, Arkaim, Hot waters of Tyumen, The Kungurskaya Cave, Lake Uvildy, Streams deer, Boundary between Europe and Asia.

Geographical location

Ural is the ancient ridge, natural boundary between Europe and

Asia stretching for two thousand kilometers from the Kazakhs Steppes to the Arctic Ocean. Geographers divided the Urals info five regions: South, Middle, North, Subarctic and Arctic Urals.

The climate is extreme continental: winters are cold and summers are warm. There are many rivers and lakes. The most famous river is the Chusovaya – the only river in the Urals that crosses the mountain chains from the east to the west. Among of lakes the biggest are Shartash and Balta. The highest peak of the Urals is the Narodnaya mount; it reaches a height of 1895 meters above sea level.

Flora

Differ in landscapes possible to notice when you go uphill. The way to the peak of large ridge Zigalga begins with crossing the hills and ravines. Then the road goes across pine, birch and aspen forests. We see the spruces and firs further. In some places you can meet the swamps. The peaks are covered by a moss and grasses. The peak of the Yamantau mount (1640 m) is a relatively flat area; however it is almost unapproachable because of old trunks.

Fauna

It is possible to meet inhabitants of tundra in the north — reindeers, and in the south of typical inhabitants of steppes — marmots-bajbakov, shrews, snakes and lizards. Woods are occupied by predators: brown bears, wolves, gluttons, foxes, sables, ermines, lynxes. There are otter and beaver.

Cities

The main rich cities are Ekaterinburg, Perm, Izhevsk, Orenburg, Chelyabinsk, Magnitogorsk, Ufa, Nizhny Tagil and Kurgan. Four of them are "millionaires" (Ekaterinburg, Perm, Ufa and Chelyabinsk). .

Ekaterinburg

Ekaterinburg is the capital of the Ural. The population of Ekaterinburg consists of more than 1210 thousand people.

Ekaterinburg is general recognized as the centre of machine-building industry.

And today Ekaterinburg is a culture centre it unites cinemas, theatres, museums, libraries, sports and recreation facilities and stadiums and etc.

The Leaning Tower of Nevyansk

The Leaning Tower of Nevyansk is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Sverdlovsk region. It is located in the centre of Nevyansk and can be seen from every part of the town. It was constructed in 1725 by Akinfi Demidov, the owner of Nevyansk Metallurgical Plant. The Tower leans 1m 86 cm to the south-west; it looks like one of the towers of Ancient Russia. It is 58, 5 high and consists of four floors.

The history of the Tower is full of mystery and legend. People say that is has leant because many Demidovs workers died in its cellars. Another legend says that the Demidovs secretly smelted gold and silver and minted their own rubles in the Tower. On the ground floor there is the whispering gallery. If you stand in one corner of this room and whisper a word, a person in the opposite corner can hear you perfectly well and people in the centre of room can hear nothing.

Even now nobody knows the secret of its construction. It was built according to the model of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. Both towers are leaning. But architecturally they are quite different.

For us the Leaning Tower of Nevyansk is a monument to the powerful Demidovs on the one hand and a monument of the work and talent of old Ural masters on the other.

Ganina Yama

Ganina Yama - this memorable place where in 1918 have been dumped in shaft remains of members of an imperial family: Emperor Nikolas II, the empress Aleksandry Fedorovny and their children. These events are connected with civil war in Russia of 1918-1921 when to Ural Mountains the imperial family has been sent from Petersburg. Now on Ganins Yam there is a man's monastery for the sake of Sacred Regal Strastoterptsev. On this holy site of Ural Mountains there come also pilgrims and those who are interested in national history.

Nizhny Sinachiha

This is the museum of wooden architecture under the open sky in the Nizhny Sinachiha, the unique collection of wooden constructions 17-19 centuries.

Verkhoturye

Verkhoturye is the oldest town in Sverdlovsk region. It was founded in 1598 as a fortress in the upper part of the River Tura. Verkhoturye was called “The Gates to Siberia”.

The centre of the town is the Kremlin. The Kremlin was built in the style of the so-called Moscow baroque.

Now it is a small town. Recently the Kremlin with its marvelous Trinity Cathedral was rebuilt. Here are located 2 uncials cathedral – man and woman and very many churches and temples. Many tourists visit Verkhoturye and admire the beauty of its historical monuments.

Arkaim

Arkaim is the most mysterious attraction of the Chelyabinsk region, around which there are a lot of legends and scientific hypotheses. Arkaim is the rests of the ancient city-civilization, a settlement of the Bronze Age, located in the Chelyabinsk region. It’s located in the "Land of cities", on the bank of the big Karaganka. This historic monument dates back to 2-3 millenniums before Christ.

Hot waters of Tyumen

Hot waters of Tyumen are natural thermal waters. Waters temperature is 40-45 degrees all year long.

The Kungurskaya cave

The Kungurskaya cave is one of the largest karsts caves of Russia; it is unique monument of nature. This cave is the seventh-longest gypsum cave in the world. The age of the cave is 10 or 12 thousand years old. Nowadays this cave is historical and cultural complex. This cave is visited by around 90 thousand people every year. From 5600 meters 1500 visited by tourists. This cave is the best for excursions of 600 caves of the Perm land.

Lake Uvildy

Lakes of Chelyabinsk are known to all. Lake Uvildy is the most beautiful lake of all. Also she called «The Pearl of The Urals».

Streams deer

Streams deer is a natural park located in the Sverdlovsk region. There are a lot of rocks and carves on the territory of the national park. «Angel of the world» was established in the streams deer in 2005. This is one of the seven figures in the world.

Boundary between Europe and Asia

Boundary between Europe and Asia is one of the features of the Ural. Our region has the unique geographical location. The Urals located in two parts of the world - Europe and Asia. Obelisks are monuments at the border of Europe and Asia began to settle in the 19th century. The first steles represented by wooden monuments in the form of four third-party monument with the words "Europe" and "Asia ".

Verhny Tagil

Verhny Tagil is a town which located in Sverdlovsk region. It was founded in 1716 as a village when workers of Demidov have built an iron-works.
