Module № 3. Lesson 27

Theme: Mysterious creatures and monsters

Objectives:

- to provide new lexical material ;

- to develop and improve students basic skills ( listening, reading, speaking and writing) ;

- to expand eyesight and develop imagination of students, their knowledge about our world ;

Equipment: a pupil’s book, a computer, a multi-media blackboard

Procedure

1. Introduction.

1) Greeting and Aim (1min.) Teacher (T): Good morning, girls and boys!

Pupils (Ps): Good morning, teacher!

T: How are you today?

Ps: We are fine, thank You!

T: Today we start a new module “See it to believe it” and the topic of our present lesson is “Mysterious creatures and monsters”. During this time you’ll expand your vocabulary, read some new information and listen to facts about strange creatures. 2) Warming up. Talking. Teacher-Class (3 min.)

T: Open your books on page 42 and look at the pictures.

- What can you see in the pictures? ( picture A,B,C )

- Have you heard about these creatures?

- Where did you hear about them?

- What do you know about these monsters?

- Which country is each creature from?



2. Main Part (32min.)

1) Check on Homework (vocabulary). P1, P2, P3… Ex.1b, p.42 (2 min.)

T: Look at the screen read and translate the word combinations.

*huge eyes *long arms

*giant tentacles *a short neck

*sharp hooks * a snake-like head

* a long tail * two-legged

* a humped back * a hairy body

2) Play-time. Game «What is it?» (4min.)

T: You have to describe one of the monsters but you can’t name it. Let’s guess the monster. Who will be the first? (Pupil describes a creature, using the word combinations from ex.1b., p.42, classmates have to guess it -P1,P2. Students describe the third creature all together- one by one.)

3) Listening. (8 min.)

a) Pre-listening activity.

T: Before listening let’s read the questions of ex.2, p.42. After listening you have to answer them choosing the creatures (A- Nessie, B- the Kraken, C- the Bigfoot)

(Pupils read the questions- P1, P2, P3…)

T: Open your copybooks and write down the date, class work and number of the exercise. Listen to the text attentively and choose the correct variant.

b) While-listening.

Students listen to the text and do the task.

c) Post-listening activity.

T: Let’s check on your answers together. Be honest. You get 1point for each correct answer (6-7p= «5», 5p= «4», 4p= «3»).

4) Reading. (12 min.)

T: Let’s read the text and pay attention to highlighted words (one by one).

Post-reading activity.

a) Ex.3, p.42 (work in group)

T: Let’s work in two groups. Match the highlighted words and phrases to their meanings from ex.3, p.42. (Each group gets 1 point for every correct answer. The leader has to make a signal with his hand if his team is ready to answer.)

T: Let’s match the underlined words in the text to their opposites from ex.4 on page 42. Write down the pairs of these words in your copybooks.

5) Writing. (6min.)

T: Using these words make your own 3 sentences and write down them in the copybooks.( 2-3 students read their sentences, teacher correct their mistakes. Students give their copybooks to the teacher.)

3. Conclusion (4 min.)

1) Home Assignment (1min.)

Ex.5,6 p.42-43, write an article about one of these creatures (ex.8, p.43)

2) Summarizing and scoring (3 min.) Discussion. T-Class.

T: Thank you so much for a well-done job! (students get marks for their work during the lesson)
