What are the family traditions? Let’s think

Family traditions are the usual family norms, behaviors, customs and attitudes that are passed down from generation to generation.

They are in every family.If you think about them, you can find traditions that are only in your family.

There are many family traditions around the world. Some of them are common and some exist only in certain countries. Let's talk about some of them.

Some family traditions in England

The English are stay-at-home people. “There is no place like home”, they say. When they don’t work they like to spend their days off at home with their families.

Englishmen are very fond of fireplaces, that’s why many of them prefer the open fire to central heating.

They like to live in small houses with a small garden. People all over the world know the saying “The Englishman’s home is his castle”.

Family traditions in the USA

  On Thanksgiving and Christmas Days American people have really huge family dinners. The traditional food on Thanksgiving Day is roast turkey, mashed potatoes, mincemeat pies and pumpkin pies. At Christmas the Americans cook roast turkey, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, “hopping John”, plum puddings, apple pies and mince pies.

Russia is a multi-nation country and we have a lot of family traditions.

For example, New Year is considered a family holiday in Russia. The night of December 31 and January 1 is usually celebrated by parents, children and other relatives together. A decorated New Year tree and a table full of different foods are also necessary parts of the celebration.

In summer the Russian families usually go to vacation or go visit their grandparents in the village. These traditions are followed by a lot of people. Family trips to forest to pick mushrooms or picnics outside are common for most of the people .

Family Recipes Family recipes in Russia are one of the best ways of keeping past cultural heritage alive. Recipes brought over from the “old country” or even homemade recipes created by a great grandmother make excellent family traditions because cooking together keeps families connected. If you don’t have a family recipe, consider starting a new one. Take the family’s favorite meal and make something special, then teach the kids how to make it themselves. It’ll become a family tradition in no time.

There are some interesting family traditions. For example, when a new baby is born, the father should plant a tree, wishing the child to grow up strong and healthy.

As for me, our family also has special family traditions. We love to travel and visit different places.

There is one more nice tradition regarding communication in my family. The thing is every evening we sit down on the sofa and discuss the day we had. What was good about it and what was not. What we would like to change. Then before sleep my mum gives me a kiss on my cheek, covers me with a blanket and wishes me a good night sleep.

Some people believe that traditions practiced in the family help to overcome differences between generations. Others, do not think so. To my mind, family traditions help to bridge the gap between different generations.

In every family there are different traditions. Family traditions help people to feel themselves part of the whole, strengthen the family unity and simply to enjoy happy memories. I think that the moments spent in the circle of your family are the most precious.
