ESL Disclaimer

This resource has been made for the purpose of teaching English language learners. We know that students can be learning English in many different places, in many different ways and at age, so we try to keep these resources as general as possible. There are many acronyms associated with English language teaching. These include (but are not limited to) ELT, TEFL, EFL, ELL, EAL and ESOL. While the term ESL may not fully represent the linguistic backgrounds of all students, it is the most widely recognised term for English language teaching globally. Therefore, we use the term ‘ESL’ in the names of our resources to make them easy to find but they are suitable for any student learning to speak English.

Instructions:

You're Student A, and you want to find a cool present for someone you like. Student B will act like the person who works in a store. You can ask your friend questions about the presents in the store and decide which one you want to buy. It's like pretending to shop for a gift!

Christmas Dinner Invitation

Characters:

• Host/Hostess (Student A)
• Guest (Student B)

Choose a question and spend 2 minutes discussing it with your partner!

Instructions:

Imagine that Student A is having a special Christmas dinner and wants Student B to come too. Student B needs to say if they can come, talk about what they can bring to the dinner, and ask Student A for all the important information about the party.

Christmas Caroling

Characters:

• Group of Christmas Singers (Students A, B, and C)
• Homeowner (Student D)

Instructions:

Three friends, Student A, Student B, and Student C, are pretending to be Christmas singers. Another friend, Student D, is pretending to be someone who lives in a house. The singers walk up to Student D's house and sing a nice Christmas song. Student D, who is pretending to be the person who lives in the house, can either say thank you or invite the singers inside for yummy hot chocolate.
