Natural Disasters Every year different natural disasters happen in our planet. • Earthquake • Hurricane • Tornado • Volcano • Flood • Drought These natural disasters destroy cities and towns, injure people and animals. 1. Tornado 1) There are many dangerous natural disasters in the world and tornado is one of them. 2) Sometimes it’s called twister or cyclone and is regarded as the most violent of thunderstorms. 3) The main reason why tornadoes occur is the collision of warm air mass with a cool and dry mass. 4) Tornadoes can occur worldwide, but are often reported in the USA, Japan, Australia, South Africa, Uruguay, Canada. 5) The damage from tornadoes is created merely by its strong force of wind. 6) Fortunately, most storms are mild and only a few are destructive. 2. Volcanic Eruption 1) Volcano is a mountain with a large hole at the top, through which hot rocks, lava, and ash sometimes rise into the air from inside the earth 2) There may be hundreds or thousands of years between volcanic eruptions 3) Volcanic eruptions occur only in certain places called ‘hot spots’. 4) Volcanic ash and gas can affect people hundreds of miles away and cause lung illnesses. 5) It also can kill animals and destroy entire forests. 3. Drought 1) Drought is a long period of dry weather when there is not enough water 2) Drought can be in spring, summer and autumn. 3) In the driest years of the drought covered two or even three seasons. 4) It is characterized by low temperatures and cold dry winds, even storms. 5) This drought can cause both people and animals because nobody can live without water. 4. Flood 1.Flood is a large amount of water which quickly covers a place that is usually dry land. 2. It is a result of rising water levels in rivers, lakes, seas because of the rains, rapid snowmelt. 3 . Flood can happen in different parts of the world. 4. It causes damage to people's health and even result in their death, and causes material damage. 5. Flood also can kill animals and destroy entire forests. 5. Hurricane 1) There are many violent and destructive storms in nature and hurricane is one of them. 2)It is a form of a tropical cyclone, which normally hits the north or south shores of America. 3) Depending on a number of factors, hurricanes can come in impressive sizes. 4) One of the deadliest hurricanes ever hit the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. 5) This hurricane killed more than ten thousand people due to the high storm surge and lack of warning. 6) Today the forecasters try to predict a great amount of storms. 6. Earthquake 1) An earthquake is a sudden shaking of the ground. 2) It tremors and vibrations of the surface of the Earth and sometimes may also be caused by the rise of lava during volcanic eruptions. 3) Each year on the whole Earth is about a million of earthquakes. 4) Really strong earthquakes can cause extensive damage that happen on the planet about once every two weeks. 5) They occur all over the world, mostly in Japan and in China Emergency workers To come to the conclusion it should be mentioned that in all this disasters, nature and people need help. Emergency workers such as doctors, nurses, fireman, water and gas workers do their jobs in difficult situations. Sometimes the police and the army helps too.
