St. Patrick’s Day
Saint Patrick's Day
is a religious holiday celebrated internationally on 17 March.
It commemorates
Saint Patrick (c. AD 387–461),
the most commonly
recognized of the patron
saints of Ireland.
Little is known
of Patrick's early life.
He was born in Roman Britain
in the 4th century.
At the age of sixteen, he was taken to Ireland as a slave.
But he managed to run away.
He returned to Britain and studied to be a priest .
Then he was called back to Ireland to Christianize the Irish.

Shamrocks, leprechauns and
the blarney stone
are associated with St. Patrick's Day

Shamrock symbolizes
the rebirth of spring.
It was later adopted as a symbol of Irish nationalism.
Another great story was
how he used the shamrock, with its three leaves,
to explain the Holy Trinity

Leprechauns are little
make-believe fairies from Ireland.
They are the little old men who are shoemakers for the fairies.

if a Leprechaun is caught by a human,

Blarney comes from Gaelic
"An blarna", meaning the plain.
Blarney Castle is 90 feet tall.

According to legend, whoever kisses the Blarney Stone is gifted
with eloquence and persuasiveness.

Legend also says that St Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland.

Actually St Patrick never did this. The story is a metaphor for driving paganism from the Island.
