• Washington, D.C. , formally the  District of Columbia  and commonly referred to as " Washington ", " the District ", or simply " D.C. ", is the  capital  of the  United States . Named in honor of President  George Washington , the City of Washington was founded in 1791 to serve as the new national capital.

The  White House  ranked second on the  AIA's  " List of America's Favorite Architecture " in 2007 .

The  United States Congress  has ultimate authority over the District.

Metro Center  is the transfer station for the  Red ,  Orange ,  Silver , and  Blue   Metrorail  lines.

Washington Monument

The marina which is visible is in Pentagon Lagoon, which is part of the Boundary Channel of the Potomac River. Trees border the Boundary Channel and exist both on the Virginia shoreline and on Columbia Island (an island in the Potomac River).
