«What do I like about being teacher?»
What do I like about being a teacher?
Why have I become a teacher of English? I still don`t know the exact answer. This dream appeared in my head long ago, about sixteen years ago. Why do I remember the date so clearly? It`s simple. The matter is, that I was a first-year pupil in 1995. And like many of my classmates, I saw myself a teacher, who was standing in front of the class in a wonderful classical dress with high heels on, explaining something and showing it on the blackboard. This was the image of my first teacher. How friendly we were thanks to her! How kind and understanding we became! She inspired us with her youth, enthusiasm, talent, and love, of course. Love towards us, children. This is what children usually feel, and you can`t let them down. And if they feel that the teacher is sincere, they will do the same, they will be sincere too. The older I became the more I was puzzled with the thought of my future profession. Frankly speaking, I was not sure what to choose. But at last I made up my mind. I chose the Pedagogical Institute. I read a lot, I was brought up with not only Russian but also with foreign writers, who became my dearest teachers. To read literature in original is much more interesting. You can feel yourself a main character and live his or her life, you start thinking like they do and you get into their time and place.
Five years passed and the course of my practice put everything as it is now. I understood that teaching is my mission.
Here I am, a teacher at school. It was very hard from the very beginning. You should put a part of yourself, your soul, your energy in your children, as if you are planting and then, when it is time to pick up the harvest some time later you can see the result of your work. Children reward you with the knowledge you gave them, with their emotions and feelings. Of course, we shouldn`t forget that they are all different, everyone has his own result. It depends upon their efforts and opportunities. And when appreciating I try not to compare them, but to compare the result of his work.
When I became the head teacher I gained a new school family. And now every time we learn new words or some grammar rules we live a new life together. And every day is not the same. There are hard days as well, when something is not as it should be. But there are such days when I come home inspired by the success. The topic is finished, the test is written properly, the poems are learned...
My life is like a kaleidoscope of events, changing very fast. I realize that I teach not only to make friends, to communicate, to work hard, but they teach me too. They teach us to be sincere, fair, just and... life!
Every student is, as I see it, is a man with his own thoughts, opinions, moods and tastes. I also remember that it is not me who has become to teach them, but it is them who have come to be taught. That is why I always try to make my subject interesting for them. They should understand that the process of studying should be mutual. It depends upon us both. I try to invite little children very carefully, trying to show what an exciting wonderful world will open in front of them, every touch to what will enrich their inner world. And I try not to forget that this new world will be much richer and more interesting if a teacher cares about his own inner world, his professional and personal development. Because his cognitive experience of mutual contact with people, his own "dialogue" with life is "raw material" for his future lessons.
