The London Underground is the oldest in the world. The first line was opened in 1870. English people call the old lines the Tube , the new lines the Underground.

The London Tube is about 300 kilometers long and has almost 300 Underground stations. The London Underground sprawls in every direction. You can travel to a different station every day and discover something new.

With 270 stations, it would be easy to get confused when you look at a rail map. That’s why Harry Beck had the brilliant idea to re-imagine the map as an electrical diagram and the iconic Tube Map was born. It’s so simple to navigate – you can easily find your way around London and transferring between lines. So, it shows how to get from one place to another and not the distances between the stations.

There are many museums, libraries and galleries in London. The British Museum is a very interesting place in London. It was founded in 1753.

Inside, you’ll find collections of art, literature, and other artifacts telling the story of human history. 

The library of this museum has a lot of books. There is also the Reading room of the British Library in the museum.

Sherlock Holmes is one of London's icons. He helped to make London the way it is. He is the most famous Londoner who never lived and never died.

The famous story “A Study in Scarlet”(«Этюд в багровых тонах» или «Красным по белому»)is written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1887. This detective novel was the first story to feature the character of Sherlock Holmes.

The deerstalker (шляпа), the magnifying glass (лупа), and the curved pipe - (курительная трубка) are signs and trademarks which make the character of Sherlock Holmes recognizable for audiences around the world.

The Sherlock Holmes Museum   is a privately run museum in London, dedicated him. The museum hosts an exhibition featuring life-size waxworks from Sherlock Holmes’ most famous adventures, and a shop full of objects and souvenirs.
