«ice breakers» и «warm ups»

Самыми эффективными приемами, которые способствуют формированию психолого-педагогического климата на уроках английского языка, помогают преподавателю установить межличностный контакт и повторить лексический и грамматический материал являются технологии «warming ups» и «ice breakers».

«Warm ups» - это короткие по времени и не требующие особой подготовки упражнения коммуникативной направленности, используемые на любом этапе урока, способствующие привлечению внимания обучающихся, обобщению и повторению изученного материала.

“Ice-breakers” ‒ задания, цель которых ‒ наладить взаимодействие между участниками и создать благоприятную рабочую атмосферу на уроке. Такие игры пригодятся в любой ситуации, содействуя умению работать в сотрудничестве.

Warming up samples:

• Weekend: 10 words from each student to describe last weekend (variations: any topic).
• Spot the lie: given topic, create 6 sentences (in groups), one is a lie.
• 10 Questions: Is it a human? – Can we eat it? – Can it speak? Etc.
• Guess the town, city, country. One student describes and the others guess.
• How do you…?: Make a mashed potatoes, send an e-mail, etc.
• The last letter: Word starts with last letter of previous word. Car-Rope-Eagle etc.
• Cooperate story; you give the first sentence: e.g. "The family is in the zoo", "It was a rainy day", … A continues with a sentence, B then adds another sentence, next comes C, etc.
• Brainstorm round a term (mind map): e.g. fruit, cooking, furniture, playing music, etc.

• Put words into categories: countries, food, animals, furniture, clothing, etc.
• Jumbled sentences: Mix up order of words in a sentence.
• Picture dictation: one student describes a picture and the other draws it.
• Sentence game: expand given sentence, e.g.:

The boy is holding a book.

The boy is holding an interesting book.

The boy is holding an interesting book now.

The boy is holding an interesting book about adventures now. Etc.

• Hangman: (- -, students guess letters)
• 
• Tenses revision: students are to write down three things they did on the previous weekend, previous evening, …, or are going to do next weekend, holiday, etc.
• Word seeds: dictate 20 words to be used to prepare a story, orally, in groups

Procedure

1 Everyone stands in a circle.

2 Begin the activity as follows:

a Everyone, all together, claps their hands twice.

b All together, everyone holds their hands apart (palms up) as if offering

something to the group.

c The first person says their name into the space above their palms.

d Everyone claps their hands twice.

e The next person in the circle repeats Step (c).

f Everyone repeats Step (d) and so on around the circle like this: Clap,

clap, (name), clap, clap, (name).

g Finish with two claps.

3 Go around the circle again in the same way, but a bit faster and without breaking the rhythm.

Variation

• Instead of their name, students call out a hobby or passion of theirs, or a

favourite colour or food.

• Each student chooses an item of vocabulary from the previous lesson or

from a text they have just read and says that instead of their own name.
