Enlivening a story

Level: Pre-intermediate Grade: 8-9 Age: 13-14


In the classroom 20 minutes

Week

1

Teacher’s role:

Neutral facilitator

  • Teacher introduces students to the aim of the work and plan of the project.

  • Teachers shows students two short videos that were filmed according to a books (literary works):

  • Teacher poses Essential question:

How to make our own enjoyable movie according to excerpts from the book?”

  • He/she gives the task for home to read the article and to watch the movie.

Students’ role:

  • Students watch the stories and get acquainted with the project objectives.

  • The students discuss the essential question.

  • Students read the article and watch the video. They can also look through other resources.

In the classroom 15 minutes

  • The teacher checks how the students understand the article and video. She/he discusses them with the students. Then she/he divides the students into groups.

  • Students discuss the article and the video, share with their opinion. Then they divide into groups of five/six.

2

  • The teacher offers to read a book, take an interesting excerpt from the book they have chosen in order to make a movie.

  • The teacher makes up rubric for evaluation of the students’ project. She/he shows criteria.

  • Students discuss the rubric with the teacher.

  • The students distribute the tasks and responsibilities.

  • Students go to the library. They read literary books. They analyse them, they choose one appropriate book.

  • Then they take an interesting excerpt from the book they have chosen.

3

  • The teacher checks what book they have chosen and the comprehension of students.

  • The teacher observes, counsels, advises.

  • The students discuss their books.

  • They name their short stories (the excerpts of the books).

  • The students prepare all necessary things and their speech for making movie and shoot their movies. They use skills that they have learnt in the first step.

4

  • The teacher observes, counsels, advises.

  • Teacher offers the website which can help students in editing:

  • The teacher checks the scripts of the movies

  • The students edit their movies.

  • They can visit the web page in order to learn how to edit videos.

  • The teacher observes, advises

  • The students make an advertisement poster for the movie.

  • When the students present their movies they tell their aim in making this movie.

  • Students answer the essential question according to their experience.


In the classroom 1 hour 30 minutes

6

  • The teacher assesses students' efforts, creativity, mistakes in speech and the quality of the presentation, content of the film.

  • The teacher uses his rubric to evaluate.

  • The students participate in the evaluation.

  • They use their own rubrics (peer evaluation)

  • Also they answer the checklists (self-evaluation)
