Monuments
of the town of Yakutsk
Yakutsk is the capital of Republic Sakha (Yakutia). It is one of the most beautiful towns in the Far East. I would like to pay attention to monuments of our town, which definitely make it interesting. Without doubt, monuments play an important part in our live, because they connect us with history, help people to remember those who put great contributions in the development of our Republic. More than that monuments make any city or town attractive and unforgettable .I should say that monuments can even save people’s lives. It happened in South Korea with the monument to Mother, which was erected opposite high rock from which young people use to commit suicide. Standing on the high rock and looking down at this monument they remembered their mothers and stopped doing that. So monuments have a great power on people. Can you imagine our cities and towns without them? Of course it is impossible. Now, let’s go to the streets of Yakutsk and see how monuments reflect the lives of people, living in our town.
Monuments connected with the historical event - the foundation of the city of Yakutsk
First I want to tell you about the monument to the pioneers, founders of Yakutsk. In 1630 Andrey D obrynsky discovered people on the Vilyui River and stayed there to establish state power. The stone and big wave symbolize the first travelling of pioneers along the beautiful but wild river Lena .

Not far from the monument to the pioneers you can see obelisk to the Peter Beketov ,who was the founder of the town Yakutsk. It was build in 2007 and symbolizes two peoples - the Russians and the Yakuts.
Monuments to great writers and poets
I think that one of the most interesting monuments of Yakutsk is the monument to Alexander Bestuzhev-Marlinsky. As everybody knows he was a friend of Pushkin and Griboedov. He was exiled to Yakutsk, where he spent two years, studying the life of Yakut people, their language and folklore.
Monuments to great writers and poets
In the center of Yakutsk in the Friendship Square you can see the monument to Aleksey Kulakovsky – the founder of Yakut literature. It was built in 2002. The monument represents a figure of a man sitting near the tree, thinking deeply, of course, he was a philosopher. He is deeply loved by people and every holiday a lot of beautiful flowers can be seen in front of the monument.
Monuments , dedicated to the Great Patriotic War
The pages of last war will never be forgotten. In Victory Square there are a lot of Monuments which show those hard days. The peo ple of Yakutsk like to go to this Square to thank heroes of that war.
Monuments , dedicated to the Great Patriotic War
The monument to Mother is also connected with The Great Patriotic War, it was opened in 2012. It is a fantastic creation of Afanasy Romanov, made of bronze. The monument to a woman is a symbol of great love and life, the child in her left hand is a symbol of future, three birds on the other hand – her sons, flown to the war .
Monuments about the animal world
During the war people suffered a lot from hunger. It was really horrible time, but due to crucian millions of people’s lives were saved. And now we can admire the sculpture of this fish on the beautiful bridge.
Professional monument
Our childhood is always connected with school. It is so great that in Yakutsk there is a monument to a teacher, made in 2013, of bronze, by Maxim Pavlov. Look, one seat at the desk is empty, you can sit here and feel yourself like a pupil again! It’s great!
Interesting sculptural compositions
Walking along the streets I can’t help admiring the sculpture of a man, sawing the brunch of a tree on which he is sitting. It is humorous sculpture, but its moral is great .
As you see there are many interesting monuments in Yakutsk, which teach us not to forget about our past, present and future. I think the more monuments we have, the more attractive and exciting our town will be. I would like to support those architects, who offer us not only classical sculptures made of bronze and other metals, but easy and abstract which can stir and enrich our imagination. So, as you see, it is very interesting for me to know more about monuments and history of our town. It is very important for us and our future generations to make our town the better place to live in.
Thank you for attention !
